Data Links considered automatic?

Post by TMP95 »

Just to clarify for myself. Are datalinks considered to be happening automatically.

Say I have a 2 ship of F-14s and an E2C up in the air. Is the E2C auto sharing all contacts with my F-14s?

meaning I can have my F-14s ECOM set to off and they will still be (or I will as part of US side) be made aware of contacts by E2C.

Thanks.

Yes- At least last I checked this works even if you were dealing with aircraft that don't have compatible datlinks; i.e. a MiG-29 can shoot R-77s at targets from offboard sensors, even though it doesn't have a datalink.
