Resuply Ships

Post by Legatusi »

Can i put factories on the Resupply Ships and you them to repair the fleet? Do they receive the materials required to repair by civilian transport? Can they refuel ships undeployed?

Im thinking of using them has my Flagships since they have 240% the space of regular ships after the 20% reduction on non combat components.

No.

I don't know.

I don't see any reason why you could not. I believe that you'll need a Construction Yard in addition to the manufacturing components.

Be aware that the larger size isn't quite as clean-cut as that. You still need to cover the 20% of the ship which cannot be dedicated warship, which means that by comparison with a warship of about the same capability (i.e. 2.4 times the normal size, with the same speeds, turn rates, etc), you'll have to have 25% more life support and habitation components, 25% more drive thrust components, ~25% more turning thrust components, probably a bit more reactor capacity than the pure warship would have, etc, and none of this is covered by the 20% of the ship which is reserved for its nominally primary function.

Resupply ships does not repair anything. They are refuel bases (when deployed) and if they get damaged (and lack repair bots), they must head to a colony for repair themselves.

You seem to want a mix of a construction ship and a resupply ship, that does not exist.

Resupply ships looks like powerful fighting ships until you realize they are very slow. I suggest you keep them for the resupply role, and increase the build size if you want larger ships for your fleets.

I want to build one super heavy ship to be my Personal Flagship and it has to be massive.

Slow is still good to engage space stations tough.

Good range (and fighters) is good against spaceports :)

Feel free to attempt your resupply ship idea, there is not that much at stake anyways. A problem with slow, lumbering ships can be that they are unable to escape since they want to turn before fleeing.

If you add a Construction Yard, a cargo bay, and one of each manufacturing plant to a regular warship (possibly the cargo bay is not strictly necessary), it can be given orders to build stations and repair ships, just like a regular construction ship. While I have never tried this on a resupply ship, I cannot see any reason why resupply ships would behave any differently from e.g. an escort.

It isn't going to automatically repair anything that docks with it, and you cannot order ship XYZ to repair at resupply ship ABC, but you can order ship PQR to repair ship XYZ if ship PQR has the appropriate components, regardless of whether or not ship PQR is designated as a construction ship.
