...that battle summary is from 27th. The japanese had their av value down to 900av on 25h but as you can see managed to bring in reinforcements just in time.

If they hadn't the frontline at Oita would have been collapsed. Allied recon planes spotted some 48 units present on 28th so it seems we will have to grind our way through.

It was close though... very very very close but you win some than you lose some.... Looking forward on getting better intel on what he brought forward.

Allied 4E bombers visited Nagasaki and heavy fires are reported all around the city.

..that was from the second assault which was worse in terms of casualties. As said before the question is whether he can keep rebuilding these units and keep them supplied!

I have kept the pressure on japanese airforce. Large airfield hits at Maizuru, Hiroshima and Fukuoka.

The aircraft losses have been high with these bombing runs. I estimate around 300 aircraft destroyed on the ground.

Those have been mostly fighters but some bombers as well.

There have been large strategic firebombing runs againts Nagasaki and Hiroshima...

The aircampaign will remain to be intensive and even more so in the future. Next turn we will visit Kobe where some 300 ac's are spotted.

Overall the battle of japan has been bloody mess as one would expect it to be...

Operation Cyclone / December 5th - 10th 1944

The ground troops have been resting and refitting after bloody battles at Kumamato and Oita.

The japanese cities firebombed: Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Allied 4E bombers visited Kobe and destroyed some 100 aircraft in the ground.

Japanese airforce launched massive strikes againts allied shipping at Kagoshima on december 9th and 10th.

By calling these days anything but an blood bath would be an insult.

Several allied vessels were hit by bombs and kamikazes but it was costly affair. The reports indicate some 700 aircraft downed in just two days.

Amazingly high op losses for the allies. Normally, in my games, Japan has 3x times the op losses of the allies. How do u explain those heavy op losses on your side?

I think 50% of those OP losses are from transport aircraft. (see pic)

I have been flying them a lot helping out in China initially and they seem to gather op losses a lot.

They have been flying with 60/70% with 40/30% rest. Most likely you need to stand them down manually in order to avoid high op losses.

Pacific Theatre / December 11th 1944 - January 7th 1945

The stalemate continues at Oita and Kumamato.

In mid december japanese launch heavy airstrikes (including Kamikazes) againts allied shipping near Kagoshima.

This was a 4 day operation and resulted to an massive losses in terms aircraft. Allied sided suffering aircraft losses and some destroyers were badly mauled.

In return allied bombers have hit Kobe, Nagasaki, Shimizu, Shimoseki and Fukuoka. These cities were left burning badly! In the future I think I will give more thought about targets and not just bomb manpower.

Allied ground troops have launched two unsuccesfull offensives at Oita supported by heavy airstrikes. Both were repulsed with heavy loss of life! Now it seems he is reinforcing Oita sector and last turn showed 3000av present.

The number was down to closer 2000 av not longtime ago! The artillery pieces he has stacked around the map are making offensives bloody...!

Elsewhere the advance towards Malaya peninsula have begun. Very bloody battles raging just north of Pegu were japanese infantry units are putting up an solid fight!

I'am not going to abandon this advance and expect to grind through here within next couple of weeks!

Overall we talked about the "allied major victory" clause in the game and whether we will see this through! I told my opponent that it is his call and no hard feeling if he wants to surrender!

...and the response was that we will fight as long as allied side wants to! Chris stated that he is having a lot fun trying to put up obstacles / resistance and trying to keep everything together.

Thus it seems this will be my 3rd 1946 PBEM game within AE! A lot of respect to my opponent and yes.. He is making things complicated and hard!

Allied bombers focus on enemy aircraft engine factories in Gifu. The bombers manage to inflict decent amount of damage.

The operational losses are high but I think it is worth it. We will continue this at least a turn or two...

Other cities targeted include Nagasaki, Shimizu and Matsuayama.

In Burma another allied ground offensive is halted north of Moulmein. We rest and grind again...

Allied airforce concludes it's operations at Gifu for now. Around 80% of the engine factories are toasted.

The bombing campaign againts the Home Islands continues. Now the allied bombers visit Okayama and Tokyo.

We also have flown quite a few fighter sweeps near Oita and Fukuoka.

The heavy fighting continues at Burma and japanese manage to repulse yet another allied offensive...

Pacific Theatre / January 24th - February 10th 1945

Allied bomber squadron focus has been at Shimoseki and Fukuoka. Both cities have been heavily bombed and huge fires are raging around the area.

There has not been any ground combat to report at Kuminato nor Oita. Thus far it is an stalemate there...

After long absence few enemy supply vessels were spotted near Hiroshima. Allied divebombers and torpedo bombers made short work of that TF.

As you can expect daily dogfights are reported in the skies above home islands. We have yet to break the backbone of japanese airforce.

Elsewhere pretty quiet but japanese have repulsed yet another allied ground offensive near Moulmein. This field has been filled with allied and japanese blood!

A bit baffled since have been bombing the airfield at Moulmein daily but he does not seem to have supply issue here! So either this pointless nor he have huge stack of supplies gathered here....

We can also confirm that allied HQ have approved couple operations called Turtle and Eagle. More about these a bit later...

The cities at Fukuyama and Shimoseki are all but toasted. The resource and light industry are badly damaged by manpower bombing runs.

We have now bombed Nagasaki airfield and manpower and expect this city to be burned into ruins. There are couple of other targeted cities as well.

Allied B29's have also laid down minefields at Tokyo Bay in order to prevent any shipping traffic to the capital.

In Burma we have now moved out some ground units in order to rest them after bloody encounters.

Allied achieved Auto Victory level on 22nd February 1945 but we will push on...

Hi Jocke! Good to see you around. How are things?

...and oh this is not yet finished and the game is still ongoing! Operation Turtle up next... [:)]

That was an good question. I did 2 GC that went the distance in the orginal Witp. This will be 3rd PBEM GC that will go the distance in the AE edition. So quite a lot of turns... and as we all had couple of "false starts" but been lucky to have solid opponents otherwise this would not be possible! :)

Peaceful times if you take out daily bombing runs againts Nagasaki, Shimoseki and Hamamatsu.

There seems to be increased air to air resistance building up.

Allied HQ has reveleaded that operation Turtle will begin within 2 days time... objective is Shikoku. It is now D-day -2....

....and that was the carnage reported from past 2 days. Quite a few transport ships got hit but that nothing less you would expect when invading Home Islands.

In the end though we landed some 1500av and immediate ground offensive is ordered. It seems Japanese 155th division and 45th Ind.Mixed Brigade are defending Kochi.

If everything goes as planned we should have secured Kochi next turn...!

Pacific Theatre / March 3rd - 4th 1945

The turn marked Operation Turtle D-Day +2...

As expected japanese launched yet another massive airstrikes againts allied shipping at Kochi.

The CAP worked out much better and in the end japanese lost around 500 aircraft compared to allied 100.

It seems enemy is moving even more aircraft into frontlines so expecting another heavy air to air combat turn.

The good thing is that japanese defenders were beaten at Kochi and this will be 3rd allied controlled base in HI.

The bonus being that enemy forces retreated towards Matsuayma and hopefully will be cut off.....

Congrats! Well played. [&o]

How many GC have you played now?

Pretty good. No time for AE nowadays though. Been playing some WitW which is turning out to be a disappointment. [:(]

Hopefully AE is still around when the kids get a little older so I can start another GC! [:D]

No doubt the game is still around and can relate to that feeling! [:)]

I have looked at WitW and WitE but to be honest at the moment don't have the energy dig into them. Maybe someday but not now.

The summer is coming and no less than 2 Football teams to coach since my daughters still play... I will see this PBEM through and than we shall see whether a break is in order or what the plan is.

Good to see browising through the messageboard! [:)]

I´m still reading some of the AAR although I seldom check the other forums or comment much in the AARs. [:)]
