A betrayal too far

Post by zakblood »

A betrayal too far: Only brutal honesty will do at Arnhem’s 70th anniversary. (last year)

a bridge too far is by far my most favour subject and battle to play, and has been now for any years, i have spent a few years looking for a editor to do it justice, needs a good modern engine with good AI scripts, so far the search goes on for all the elements, but here is one i have found and liked but doesn't have the AI...

it's a pet project of mind and i thought i's share my thoughts, not just increase my post count as many think[:D]

as you zoom in so does the terrain come to life, and the height of the land, or flatness comes more into play

as we move along the road and zoom in some more, the objects in the distance come into view

we move along the road towards the town and bridge and lower the zoom somewhat and we see the defences before the bridge over one of the canals

now before the bridge, we see how hard it would be to attack it, without heavy loss, while empty atm you can image it full of defenders, i can...

with trenches and dug outs either side of the road and bridge, a attacker from either direction not fully supported will be costly

last one, final picture and have zoomed out a bit to show it in all it's glory

now the reasons for the post, as one it's not my work, 2, it's not even a game or editor from here?

the reason is many game developers are doing now some great work on looks for war games, with as you can see some great detail in map and level design, but forgetting any elements of real strategy for what us war gamers want, in the future it would be nice if we could have this level of detail and some more war game elements in it as well, not just fps types, but real games with depth, i want a world map, yes.... but also want to be able to zoom down to this level as well, i want to be able to direct the whole war plus fight a land battle at brigade level or lower as well, do i ask to much? or is it that i dream to often / much?

in the future then hopefully we will be playing this, made from here and i for one will look forward to testing it, then buying it.

Looking nice. [:)] Each time graphics get "updated" meaning better graphic cards and programs I'm stunned at how much better it looks than say five years ago. I come from green monochrome/black and white monitors 12" or so, and now this. I was equally amazed at how much better ARMA III looks. By the way doesn't Battlefront's Combat Mission have an editor? That one looks amazing too imho. Don't think it will do the entire world though LOL

no it's not combat mission, and tbh have no idea if it has one or not, i'll keep you all guessing a while longer yet, but it's not a war game as such in the likes of those posted here, while it's based on a war theme, it's more fps type with no real strategy or very little and basic element in it and basic in it's feel, that's why most of you won't have it maybe, i only got it from a friend who plays this type of stuff and said, take a look it might be your cup of tea, editor yes, game no...

it doesn't display the whole world either, that's just my dream, so it could display all battle fields etc, i can image a day when war in the west type gets re made and looks like this, but still has a war game also feel to it, well i can dream for longer, as it won't be any time soon[;)]

Looks like Men of War terrain graphics to me. Great game if they could just get rid of the inventory management system and have soldiers scrounge ammo on their own. It really detracts from game play immersion having to constantly scrounge ammo in big battles.

well you know your games, it is number 2, hardly any real stuff in it tbh, but a great editor, will be adding some mods for testing over the next few weeks on a number of battles, as the editor is very easy to use and looks good in small scale battles, shame the size can't be altered much as it makes it very narrow battles, but long, so bit strange, but thats' fine for now, until i find another one i like more...

It looks like a battle academy map with more detail. I like the map. Now with just hexes and some stuff from Battle Academy 2 or I I think it would make for a pretty awesome looking upgrade.
