How do I interpret these numbers?

The A6M5 Zero looks a little intimidating...

I think the maneuverability is countered by the armor and max speed of the allied planes.

Yeah, if you take a look at the Chinese Soviet supplied fighters like the I-15 you'll see that they have very high maneuverability but poor speed and armament mean that they don't do so well against IJA fighters. Those 6 50 cal. on the F6F and the cannon on the P-38 plus the durability count for a lot.

Another factor to look at is the accuracy of the weapons, in a center-line weapon the accuracy is very high thus the P-38 can be quite deadly. Of course this all says nothing about the pilot, who is a BIG factor.

Easier way to see the plane characteristics - thanks to the great Tracker team.......

Those "discrepancies" are well solved in DBB, where the A6M5 mnvr is reduced above 20K feet, while the Hellcat becomes more and more superior the higher it gets

Thanks,
I had some p38's take on the zero's and zero's won 4 - zip. The p38 pilots average experience is 77. My carriers went through the area and also took on the zeros, but I don't recall the hellcats taking a beating like the p38's did.

I tend to have very favorable results when I sweep with P38s. There are many other factors that go into this, but I have very good results when they're sweeping.

The leader's stats are horrible Mugu!
That's a factor for sure. Also it depends on the distance travelled, the fatigue, the altitude settings and, obviously, Gary's dice&roll :-)

However, p38s should do pretty well against the A6M5

Also numbers. If the numbers are stacked against the P-38's they'll have a hard time.

That leader is decent for a training unit, but he's too passive for a combat fighter unit.

Sounds like I need to review my CO's. I haven't done that except for my carrier TFs.
Thanks all!

Also look at skill and experience levels of individual pilots assigned to the squadron. Your four weakest P-38 pilots may have been weeded out in combat, unfortunately along with their planes.

The A6M5 Zero armor is terrible. These fighters are like paper mache in my 1944 game. I use them to escort bombers and don't expect many to come back. They can't really take on the Hellcats. N1K1 George is the fighter that can survive. And I have been using veteran 50 exp 70 air skill pilots on both squadrons.
