AAR First Contact, 1986

First Contact 1986
Side: Norway

Part One

Looked forward to playing this one since a longer time. The scenario setup is another

perfect one for training.

Only a few minutes after scenario start, my units take a first beating: P990 Skarv and

P964 Trygg are destroyed by hostile missiles, popping up out of nowwhere.

Both ships counter-fire their sea skimmers and take out one hostile boat.

Sigh....what a start.

Still four groups alive. No surrender!

Part Two

Several ships approaching from North East. The first one is rather slow. This could be a

fishing boat.

Trailing it, there is another one, doing 30 knots.

Both are shooting! And they outrange one of my boats. Going head on to flank speed.

My leading vessel fires its Penguins, but the second ships is out of range.

Another desaster coming up?

My second group, gone. At least they got one Russian in return.

Two more ships approaching, straight from the North. Speed and radars indicate that

they are hostile.

No time to waste. Not this time. I mark them as hostile - missiles away!

I was right - they ARE hostile! Red missiles underway. And they annihilate my third

group at once.

But I got three Osa class boats in return.

W
hat a nerve-racking, furious fight.

Two Norwegian groups left, how many Russians?

No, sorry. So far, I forgot to take a few screenies. Now on my way finishing the scenario. If there is more real action (not sure how many hostiles are left) I´ll make screenies. And yes, this scenario IS brutal.

Part Three - waiting for Godot

Curious if there are any hostile vessels left. If so, I should have good chances since I

´ve got two full armed groups left.

Two Vampires in the air!

Approaching my frigates from the East. Here we are.

Three vampires incoming. Sea Sparrows underway. This will be close.

Two missiles shot down! A third one incoming. Sea Sparrows underway. Those Russian

SS-N-9 Sea Skimmers are deadly. One hit sinks a Corvette with ease. nad I gues,, an

Oslo Class Frigate, as well.

New contact! another ship. Fishing boat or Russian?

A fishing boat, veyr good.

Another skunk detected. Right North to my Frigates.

And this one is fast moving, 35 knots, and has FCR activated. That´s a hostile ship, for

sure. Manually marked as hostile.

Vampires underway! Counterattack underway!

And Sea Sparrow SAMs underway.

Yea - got them !!!

All hostile missiles shot down and my Penguin Sea Skimmers still in the air, heading for

that Russian Archer.

Never forget about the whole theatre...

My second group, two Patrol Boats to the East, detect an inbound vampire. So there is

at least one Russian ship left over there, too.

One ship is sunk, two hits. Now my Frigates are free to give aid to the Patrol Boats. Full

speed to the East!

The Patrol Boats are luckey! Two misses. Their 40mm guns would not have downed the

Sea Skimmers.

..Oops...lucks like the Russian missiles are heading for my Frigates and thus just

overflew my Patrol Boats.

Well, 24 Sea Sparrows left. Hopefully they do the job. Meanwhile the Patrol Boats

changed course to East and try to get the shooter.

Sea Sparrows underway. Once again.

Got one!

Got the second one!

Hopefully, this were the last Russian missiles.

Oh no! Two new contacts. Both doing 30 knots and FCR activated.

Marked as hostile.

The Patrol Boats automatically launch all eight missiles, four at each contact.

Both contacts hit and slow down. But none of them instantly sinks.

What to do?

Closing in with my PBs and use the 76mm cannon?

Or avoid any risk and leave the job to my Frigates?

Decision: Closing in on the nearest contact and approaching the second one with my

Frigates.

Now this is interesting: my Patrol Boats use a torpedo attack! Two torps underway.

Scenario concluded! I would have loved to play it to the end.

Triumph!

The final score: 1250

...and I just detected something for my chill out: there is a Kashin Class DDG to the

West of my Frigates!

Going to chase and sink him.

But that´s another story.

This is a wonderful and daring scenario, I really loved it.

Agreed

Short fast paced scenario.
Lots of fun.

Lost four MTB´s, but that 76mm gun saved the day for my FFG. No more Sea Sparrows in the launcher, but a, literally one percent shot, saved the day at less than 200m.

Gotta love that Bofors.

Yes, this is a hell of a scenario. Very easy to get busted.

I still didn't try this one, but is that possible to conceal the PTM in the radar clutter of the coast and launch Penguind undetected? Or hiding behind a peninsula, islands and rocks?
I don't know how rules handle radar problems detecting small boats very, very close to a rocky coast.
