Hunting for the Plans

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Hunting for the Plans

Post by Mad Russian »

Does anyone know where I can find the plans for the Warsaw Pact/Soviet attack against NATO/West Germany?

I can't find the operational name or any specific plans by name.

Any and all help is appreciated.

Good Hunting.

Have you tried here? You might get something from the links.

I really liked this one (by a former NVA officer who later transitioned into the Bundeswehr), on early '80s DDR "counter-attack" plans:

And, less concrete, but including background and viewpoints from all sides:
Military Planning for European Theatre Conflict during the Cold War (Roundtable 2006)

Wait, there's more:
The "Parallel History Project on Cooperative Security" has a collection of various documents on war plans and staff exercises for a WP attack into Germany. Requires some digging, but there are a few nuggets such as a plan for a Polish landing into Denmark.

Admittedly a subset of what you're after but here's a CIA assessment of Warsaw Pact plans for operations against Denmark from 1989: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/716 ... _APR89.pdf

Everything out there are really 'plans' from WP/Soviet exsercises, not the actual operation planning documents.

Here is a link to a 1994 Armor magazine article describing the EG/Soviet planning for the assualt on West Berlin:

Hi, just throwing this out there. Anyone have any of the of old S&T mags by SPI. There central front series might have something useful. I believe issue #82 way back when had the first game of the series called V Corp... just a thought.

There's some scans of Moves articles just been put up in the header of the Comsimworld 'Central Front' discussion page at: http://talk.consimworld.com/WebX/.ee6d04b/1392

There's also been some updates people have posted for postulated reinforcement schedules that can be used with 'Central Front'.

By the way, I did the Vassal mod for the Central Front Series years ago where I put all 5 maps together.

David Isby directed me to a book called "Cold War Plans That Never Happened 1945-91". I just got it today so maybe it will have what I'm looking for in it.
