Electronic Warfare Icon

Post by governato »

I need a quick reminder of what a unit is doing when this symbol shows up...usually its' a SAM/AA unit...I suppose they are targeting/searching..but often they get stonked shortly afterwards by counterbattery fire...

I have seen other units show it briefly and then revert to their normal icon. Tx in advance!

Makes sense! I think I have seen it mentioned that units will have the option to stay 'radar quiet' in v2.1, which may increase their durability....

as we are at it...do AA units need a clear LOS to fire at air targets or do they use other units as spotters? (also, I realize that helicopter and aircraft maybe two very different things)

AD units need LOS to Helos and need to be in range of the airstrike sight to have a chance to detect and fire. Aircraft are considered to be high enough to be engaged, potentially, without LOS being an issue. An abstraction of flying in and out of the area. Units designated as Level Bombers (LB special) are considered to be above AA guns range, but enjoy SAMs a bit more.

You also see those if a unit is equipped with GSR (Ground Surveillance Radar)

Didn't think GSR was represented in game as a mechanic just yet

GSRs are not fully or really partially implemented in the game. A few units have GSR sensors and the code does allow RWR detection. I should shut that off for 2.09 to avoid any confusion.
