TrappenAARgh

Post by Urpå »

Not sure if there's much people to follow this AAR but what the hell. To be fair, I'm not sure how much I'll be using time on this, guess we'll find out later. Maybe I can find a few more opponents this way too...[:)]

This is the first Trappenjagd scenario against human player for me but I do have a couple of Case Blue's worth of experience (no full games though). Taking over the Axis goons myself while the Red Menace is led by burroughs. HC supply rules in effect.

If there's actually people checking on this, please feel free to drop a helpers etc.

SO...

MAY 12

1st post is obviously not much as the Crimea is the only active front. A frontal attack toward the straights as it seems the only this will work. The last, rebuffed, attack done to cause some damage on the overstacked Soviets. Reasonable results IMO with almost 4:1 casualty ratio for the turn. Good air combat results too with, surprisingly, no LW fighters lost and VVS not intercepting much. However, the levelbombers goof up and the port is only knocked down to ~1/2... hopefully Soviet supply still takes a bite.

MAY 14

To my surprise Soviet offensive moves were very limited. Aside from some barrages and recon, only attacks from the western edge of the Izium salient. 62nd took a beating and managing to blunt one attack. Romanians took some losses as well.

Due to rain only limited attacks by III Korps. 333rd RD managed to stop them at the rough ground, must the the rain...

9th Panzer pulled from the line up north preparing to rail, along with the XLVIII Korps HQ, east of Kharkov next turn. Wiking pulled from the Mius and will be heading to Slawjansk along with the 16th Panzer.

Clear weather returns. As the previous was rain not much Soviet moves to see here. 48th Korps HQ railed to Kharkov along with the 9th Panzer. 3rd and 23rd assigned under 48th although it did mean losing some command points.

Thanks. One reason for this AAR was to find some opponents, so if you do get back to playing...

MAY 18, Turn 4, Clear

Goofed up with my screenshot program so this map is actually from the beginning of turn 5. I've marked things as I recall yellow brick line being the start up positions. There had actually been a few more Soviet attacks up north but I forgot to add the northern portion to the map before it was too late. Town of Rsjawa, defended by the Hungarian III Corps, was the main loss there but nothing major.

+1. Thanks for the AAR. I've never attempted such a wide encirclement at Izium, won't 16thPz be in poor supply?

I just stole the idea from another AAR. Mine has not been quite as succesful though...

One hex over the a major river isn't that bad it seems, at least when not in combat. I think they received about 3/4 of the requested supply. The bridge will be secured shortly anyway.

MAY 20, Turn 5, Rain

Well, it's another lovely rain turn so slow going again. Luftwaffe mostly resting.

Also, the AAR has now reached real time and will continue at a slower pace.

MAY 28, Turn 9, Clear

I've fallen behind a few turns on this AAR but back for now...

Black arrows are plans for the near future (early June). AG South is still missing a lot of reinforcements that become available by late June, especially when it comes to the mobile forces, but I reckon it's better to start moving before historical Case Blue date. I'm not expecting to bag all those forces inbetween, rather force them to retreat and take out some of the straglers.

Also did some relabeling on German corps HQs for easier identification.
