how can I stop pirates flaws...
my god.. it never ends.. sorry for all the ridiculous posts but I actually really enjoy this game and it just won't let me have a game without something not completely ruining my fun!
ok here we go:
i have a source of polymer .. god knows why! i guess because i have "influence" there from my stupid freighters going there to pick up.. ( i DO NOT have a mining base or anything there.)
now, the problem lies in every single freighter keeps trying to go there and it's owned by another faction which always detects and destroys every freighter i have that goes there!! what the hell am i supposed to do!??
how do i stop this as being a "source" why did my freighters even choose this as a source and now they keep going there and getting destroyed and creating "influence" so it's listed as a place for my freighters to go!.. aah! haha..
*notice the "my empire locations"
see pic..

Have you used the game editor to confirm you have influence at the planet? If so, have you tried removing that influence with the editor to see if your freighter either stop going, or keep adding influence when they do?

i can't even do that.. i just had a major crash where i can't even load my game.. so time to start over.. but i am pretty sure this game is just majorly flawed because they chose to use xna xlm net framework whatever..
the crash was so big it doesn't even fit on my screen.. lovely..

RE: how can I stop pirates flaws...
I seem to recall memory issues relating to saving the game from a long while back (ie. pre-shakturi expansion pack). Games that ran a long time eventually resulted in memory issues when the game was saved, whether auto-save or manual. The resulting savegame was corrupted. If you had auto-save running you could re-load the most recent auto-save and it would work fine, including subsequent saves. I can't speak to the underlying cause or memory leak, but it was something only seen on games that had been running multiple hours.
In any case, do you have an auto-save you could fall back to?

in any other case, i would be furious.. but in this case, there was absolutely no way in HELL i was going to use auto-save.. imagine every 10 minutes i have to wait literally 10 minutes for it to save.. do you know how long a 1 hour game would take? play 10 minutes.. wait 10minutes to save.. play 10 minutes.. wait 10 minutes to save.. again.. again.. again.. are you kidding?
anyway, i'm actually kinda happy to restart THIS TIME because of how long it took to save a god dang game.. but alas, i know after a few days of long term playing with probably bring me right back to 10 minute saves again..
HERE is the WORST part.. i play distant worlds on a 64 gig my digital SSD m.2 NGFF 42mm SSD.. i can't even imagine how long it would take on a regular HDD.. what a joke..
again unfortunately i never would have thought but it's shoty programming.. i mean what else? you see this on a lot of games.. but definitely not all.. go play Supreme Commander for 20 hours+ and see if that slows down and crashes...
anyway i guess distant worlds isn't a major game produced and backed and all that.. but its a good game.. just .shitty. choice of code, engine etc..
thats all i got..
and after all this, back to playing one hell of an addicting game.. so bravo on that..

10 minutes? That's not normal in my experience...
- How much memory does your computer have?
- What settings are you using? (Map size, number of stars, number of empires, etc?)
- Roughly how long have you been playing? (What year is it in the game?)
- What version of the game do you have? (I'm on 1.9.5.10)
- Do you use any mods?
I have played with 4GB of RAM, a HDD and the max settings and it may have taken a minute to save, but no more than that.
On my desktop (16GB RAM with SSD) it takes maybe 10 to 15 seconds.

god. I didn't even think to check in the editor.. true.
but i usually never open the editor. I just play the game. it should work by itself. that was the point of "testing" wasn't it matrix??
but im still too addicted to this game right now and haven't found another yet.
though there is this game called "last federation" or "best federation" that is pretty darn cool too.. but its different than distant worlds.

oh MatBailie, what, you never had a bad day? you never been in a bad mood? people get frustrated. I know this is silly to worry about a game and get mad but I've been playing distant worlds for a year. I am addicted. I do actually like the game. What you might be forgetting is that this game has been around now for a bit and some of the "problems" have also been around for years and they don't seem to want to fix them. Pirate play is a major one, which is funny because they even came out with a whole game called Shadows. How simple game concepts don't work is pretty amazing..(uh civilian sector ring a bell?) unfortunately a lot of things don't work. But i continue to play because luckily there are other aspects that keep me playing.
having said all that. I do appreciate you all trying to help. I do understand that.
unfortunately I do know a little bit about tweaking and systems. For example I have an 840 Evo SSD and 16 gigs DDR3L 1600 ram and a i7 4700mq CPU
so you tell me why i would have trouble running distant worlds universe?
However, I will tell you run distant worlds off of a m.2 (ngff) super cache 2 SSD. It's from a company called mydigitalssd.
here are the tests from the official company website and below that i will post mine..
-So you can clearly see I had a "write" speed issue which is most definitely causing the slow saving game speed. it may have been 3-5 minutes by the way.. not literally 10 minutes.
I probably should install the game to the 840 Evo SSD. -Strike that- guess what, i just thought that i will just save games to the 840 EVo.. not install the game there.. so then i can just load/save games off the 840 EVo but not have it installed there.

RE: how can I stop pirates flaws...
there is clearly something wrong with my m.2 SSD.
look at the write speeds!
what a joke.
pic below
this would explain why it feels like 10 minutes to save. (literally probably is 2-5 minutes..) but that is a long time to sit and watch the screen for saving.

I don't think that because a resource has a source listed against it that it is implied you have any influence over it - you simply know one source for polymer in this case. Can you make a treaty with the pirates/empire there so they do not attack your freighters, at least until you find another source of polymer?

That's interesting about your save time as my game saves within seconds and I only have 6g of ram and an old i720 quad core. I don't have problems with save times I just have issues with the ai performance. I get those screens like you show from time to time but only once in awhile from hours and hours of play. I on the other hand only save every 1hr or so. I used to save every 30 minutes but I got tired of the interupts so went to hour saves. Been working fine an fast since. Sounds like you have virtual ram settings too low. I've always used the 1.5 times actual ram size to set my virtual ram. So, I'm storing about 9g of ram data in a 6g space. I usually play on the biggest map too.

From my experience it doesn't matter much if you save to a HDD, SSD or Ramdisk. It seems that compiling the save does take that long.
