Just got back from seeing 'The Cure' live at the Hammersmith Apollo. They did a 3-hour long set (40+ songs). Pure genius. [&o][&o][&o]

By the time I heard about this it was too late to get tickets [&:] 3-hours is pretty damn good!

We only just managed to get seats up on the balcony (pretty good seats, though). The tickets sold out in minutes, so we were very lucky. Apparently they played this very long set each of the nights they played Hammersmith.

So guys and gals of the forum, what's your top 10 toons from the Swedish musical maestros? So, so many to choose from [:)]

1. I Wonder (The Album)
2. The Name of the Game (The Album)
3. Last Summer (Super Trouper)
4. S.O.S (ABBA)
5. The Winner Takes It All (Super Trouper)
6. Eagle (The Album)
7. Summer Night City - (Greatest Hits volume II - why was this classic not out on an album?)
8. As Good As New (Voulez-Vous))
9. My Love and My Life (Arrival)
10. The Visitors (The Visitors)

Well that was tough! Soooo many incredible tracks......

Spending the morning drinking tea and composing my top ten list of ABBA toons. I am not sure if I should blame warspite1 for this or thank him. [:D]

First song I listen to for consideration to be on the list is When I Kissed The Teacher.

For some reason the group were not happy with it.

I've some idea why I like what I like but, not being musical I doubt I could explain it in any technical fashion.

What do I hear in (most) ABBA songs?

Just great tunes, often excellent lyrics, beautiful voices. Their songs last the test of time for me. I dip in and out of some music, but I know I can play any ABBA album and be happy to hear it.

I think I will stick with the above as my ten (although not sure about the order) but there are at least another 10 that could easily have made the list [&o]

Definitely my favourite song though is:

I Wonder. A sad but beautiful record [&o] [&o][&o]

So guys and gals of the forum, what's your top 10 toons from the Swedish musical maestros?

Carolus Rex - Sabaton
Midway - Sabaton
Primo Victoria - Sabaton
The Price of a Mile - Sabaton
Cliffs of Gallipoli - Sabaton
Ghost Division - Sabaton
Metal Crüe - Sabaton
Metal Machine - Sabaton
Ruina Imperii - Sabaton
Wolfpack - Sabaton

Sorry, but not too big on ABBA. Unlike alot of the music made today, it does not make my ears bleed, but it is not a band I listen to alot. So for me, Sabaton are the Swedish maestros, followed by Hammerfall, Ultima Thule and CLawfinger [;)]

Fair do's.

There must be others out there that are capable of recognising ABBA's greatness??

Anyone else?

Yeah, I've always gone for indie, new wave and punk stuff, but Abba are great. And the Beatles, too!

Been listening lately to an old fav album, Magazine's "Correct Use of Soap". Guess I'm having a midlife crisis or something, going back to my younger listening days. [:(]

Here's a fav of mine from the group, although from a different album.

Magazine are a totally underrated band that produced some great music. Particular favourites of mine are the 1st and 2nd albums: 'Real Life' and 'Secondhand Daylight'. I still listen to them a lot even now.

Back in the day, myself and my circle of friends and associates scorned ABBA. As time went along I would hear some of their music and I actually have come to like some of their songs. For me, there are groups and individual artists that I didn't care for in the past but after listening to some of their songs for awhile I actually start to enjoy them...it is like cave man basic learning and psychology! I have had that experience in the opposite. An artist(Alice Cooper) who I thought was fantastic when a teenager. When I listen to him now(except for a few really good songs) I realize how bad an artist he was. The lyrics of his songs are what an 8 year old could written. I'll say he had one song that was morally conscientious when he sang about people not caring for there children. Some say he was talking about abortions.
