Crashing Virtual Machine on a Mac

Post by Davekhps »

Running Windows 8.1 on a VMWare Fusion 6.0.5 on a iMac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, OSX 10.7.5. Getting a crash immediately after I start a scenario-- reach the scenario just fine, it's just when clicking anywhere (map, menus) that the game crashes.

Point of comparison, WITE has always run fine (if a wee little sluggish) on my virtual machine, and both WITE and WITW run fine and fast on my Windows via Bootcamp.

I don't get much of an error log from the crashes, but here's what I got, if this tells you anythign:

If it's of any help to anyone investigating this, I run mine on a MacBook Pro with Parallels and Windows 7 and have had no problems at all. Nothing at all has crashed lately. That's no help to Davekhps, but is another data point.

O/T, but how is Parallels? I've used VMWare forever to play my Windows-only wargames, but it won't let me play certain games that hog too much power (AGEOD's games I can only play in native Bootcamp, and CMNAO is waaay too slow).

Then again, my iMac is ancient (2009) and even with 16 gigs memory, it's showing its age, so even the best VM might not make much of a difference for me, performance-wise.

I'm also running the latest version of Parallels with Windows 7. I can play normally almost all the time but do crash about once a week. Not a huge inconvenience but I worry about being locked out of the Siltherine server, which I believe they do if you restart too many turns in a game.

Try the following:
Open the game installation folder, find a subfolder named Dat and open it. Rename the subfolder sound as _sound.
