Decline of the Luftwaffe

Post by Bamilus »

Hey all,

I'm looking for some good online/physical book suggestions for reading up on the decline of the Luftwaffe. I've been studying WW2 for ten years and have read 50+ books but this is an area that I want to research more in-depth. I've searched Amazon and have found a few books but don't know how helpful they'd be so thought I'd check with you guys first. Does anyone have any good recommendations for books/sites that discuss the period of the Luftwaffe's decline (42 onward)? Not trying to start a topic on debating when the Luftwaffe actually started to decline, but just looking for helpful resources on studying the Luftwaffe post Barbarossa.

Appreciate any responses.

Thank you,

Bamilus,

E.R. Horton wrote a two volume history of the Luftwaffe:

Phoenix Triumphant:

http://www.amazon.com/Phoenix-Triumphan ... Triumphant

Eagle in Flames:

http://www.amazon.com/Eagle-Flames-Luft ... +in+flames

http://www.bookdepository.com/search?se ... =Find+book

Also there is "The Rise and Fall of the German Air Forces 1933-1945" (Various contributors):

http://www.amazon.com/Rise-fall-German- ... +1933-1945

http://www.abebooks.com/products/isbn/9 ... _sr=impact

Hope this helps.

"Six Months to Oblivion, The eclipse of the Luftwaffe fighter force", Werner Gerbig 1975 Hipocrene Books, Inc.
Mostly covers Operation "Baseplate" and the decline of the air defense forces from January '45.
Though, the decline started much earlier this is a good read to piece into your studies.

The arguments put forward are a bit one dimensional, but I recommend:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Luftwaffe-1933- ... 1574881256
Lots of facts and figures, and a recognition of the importance of continual operational losses
