I sent my file to Larry about 3 hours ago. Not much to report this turn. I have cleared the two pockets and destroyed approx 11 divisions. This will now release (??)Inf divisions which I can now move to the (??) flanks. (I cannot give Larry too much Intl at present) I was getting a little worry with the pressure that Larry was applying in the centre but now that I have a reserve again I am feeling a little bit happier.

My tank losses. There may be a bug in this game as I have lost 2 panzer Regts and they have not appeared in the replacement units section yet.

Would someone like to give me the heads up on how and why a unit will reconstruct. I have lost 2 Panzer Regts and they are showing no sign of reconstruction whereas the mech inf regts within the same panzer divisions (2) have already or will within the next couple of turns, will reconstruct. Is this a bug or does it have something to do with the equipment within the Panzer Regts? The first equipment slot is Pz III h and I only have 2 on hand their supply rate is 2 per turn.

PS
Larry you got mail.

Okie dokie......I've cleared the Crimea of Axis units and now the task is to break out through one of the few exits from the
peninsula. I'm going to lose a lot of people doing that.

First comes distribution of material to units already placed in the game depending on overall weighted demand.
In this case (FitE) it's roughly 80% which is distributed (could be different in your version. Can be seen in the editor only)
Reconstruction of destroyed units is based on what is left.
Order of reconstruction can be seen in OOB.
When it comes to the question whether a certain unit can be reconstructed or not *only* the first entry in the list of materials is taken into account.
Let's assume that this is 'Pz. H' and the maximum is 99.
This unit needs 2/3 of the maximum (2/3 of 99=66) for reconstruction and the reentry hex for this unit needs to be valid.
If this is not the case: nothing happens and the next unit to be reconstructed is looked upon.
Otherwise: unit is reconstructed.
It will grab as much material as possible and receive a time stamp of when (and where) to appear in the game again (it would be nice if a unit would only grab 2/3 if this type of material is in short supply but this is not the case)

Your Panzer Regimenter will not come back in normal play.

There is a way around this algorithm but it is very likely that you won't be interested in this: each turn you have to move every unit containing the required material for the full amount of mp.
This will send some material to 'on hand'.
Yes: at the start of the next turn roughly 80% will come back through redistribution but if you keep doing this you will somewhen get the required amount of material 'on hand' after redistribution to be able to reconstruct *1* Panzer Regiment.
Better forget about this and keep the remaining Panzer Regimenter out of trouble during the russian turn.

Here's the Smolensk area in T43. I'd post a picture of the front lines but they are substantially the same as the last 5 turns or so.
And in fact, the front lines won't move very far from what they are for at least another couple of turns. I'm railing some people
to the north front because I've detected some movement of Axis troops in that direction. Plus, I hope to make that a main emphasis
sometime in the future. I don't think I have to take it back to win the war but at least it'll tie down a lot of Axis troops.

Here's the Smolensk area in T44. Substantially the same as last turn. We're in the slogging mode now, probably for the rest of
the game. Toe-to-toe trading shots back and forth like any other scenario for WWI. I guess I best get used to it.

Here's the losses on the ground so far. They are approaching prohibitive. I'm going to have to stop attacking for a while and
let the units refit. Some units are down to half of their complement and that's not a good sign. Well, maybe not half but a lot.

Thanks for the heads up nebukadnezar. If we amend the first equipment slot in the panzer regts to be '1 tracked mmg scout" then will the units will always reconstruct so long as there is 1 scout vehicle in the pool?

Yes, but you might also have to change the setting for pzReg41. (In FitE most of them didn't reconstruct at all so they would never even enter the list of units to be reconstructed)

Here's the recent Soviet INF losses. Way more than I was anticipating. No more winter attacking for a while. Give the units a
chance to build up their strength again. Some units are down to 1/2 their assigned equipment.

Here's the air losses so far. I noticed just now that the I-16's and Mig-3's are going to stop production pretty soon. D'oh.
The other planes will have to take up the slack. Other than that, you can see that the losses have been pretty high
since the beginning of the game. Elmer likes to do airstrikes on airfields even though he losses in those contests.

And here's more bad news: There's several different models of tank that are going out of production soon and it's not going
to impact the war in a major way because some of them we weren't building anyway. And the others were in small numbers
and or were obsolete models. Probably we won't notice their missing numbers in the front lines.

I was wrong about the northern front being a backwater no-action quiet front. It's starting to heat up and I'm shipping
units up there to help out. The Finns are not being pushy but I'm thinking it might be a way to take the Finns out of
the war........just defeat the Finns. Yeah. Good idea.

You can still attack with anything not containing Rifle Squads like:
- Guards Cavalry
- Guards Infantry
- Guards anything :D
- Tank Brigades. Check the dark red ones. Most of them have no or close to no Rifle Squads.
Those can be combined with *any* artillery because all of them are on Free Support (at least it was the case in FitE)
Trying to minimize the Rifle Squad losses is a good idea but there is no point in not pursuing your war of attrition.
