Just a thought but why not simply use the existing credit screen in the new location instead of creating another? I took a look at the new one and it was a little hard on my eyes. It's not quite as easy to read as the original.

Absolutely AMAZING, Chemkid! I love this new map even more than your other! Absolute perfection! The new clouds are also perfect. This map is a wargamer's dream come true. I'll have to check it out some more as I go along. I haven't tested everything out yet but your maps keep bringing me back to this game. Thank you for your beautiful art.  [:)]

BTW, Chemkid, I am so impressed with your work I had to post something about it in the main (General discussion) forums at top. I hope you don't mind.. [:)]

Hello [:)]

First of all, absolutely stunning map [&o]

I really want to use it but I don't know if it's going to work. I use the Da Big Babes mod (extended map). Will it work?

+1
The Babes CPX folks don't usually read these boards, but I sent a message to take a look. Darn near everybody said WOW and you are now our new map graphic standard.
Cannot begin to say how much you have added to the visual aspects of the game. My Haiku absolutely sucks, but I'll give it a shot.

Awesome! [&o]

But I'm not fond of pastel greens and light blues. I much prefer your earlier, darker map mod colors. You will maintain a dark-color (and DBB-compatible) version of this JATM map mod, yes?

I am pretty sure that I know this, however, I will still ask. Since Treaty Mod, RA, and Between the Storms all work off of the Da Babes Extended Map this map SHOULD work with the Mods. RIGHT?

Hello Chemkid! I am new at being active in the forums and I am redoubling my efforts to learn this game. While I only used your old maps for a short time, I have to say that I like these maps far better! The colors are less harsh, the road network is very intuitive now and the overall feel is much better. I just have two small requests. Do you think small trails like the Kokoda Trail can or will be added? Also, anything to mark an urban area? I know I can press "1" for terrain defense features, but it was something to see at a glance is all. Thanks again!

@gary - thank you for your general forum 'ad' - getting some nice feedback from there!

You are most welcome, Chemkid. Thank you for your awesome maps! [:)]

EDIT: I'm not much of a cartographer and my digital art skills are pretty mediocre but if there is anything my pedestrian talents can assist in your project feel free to PM me.

Chemkid,

You have done a magnificent job with the map.

As an Architect I’m very sensitive to graphics. You are very talented, great job.

You are on track to satisfy the requirements of both a hex map and a no hex
Map with only the one map. No small feat.

The idea being to allow the game elements to fade back and not overpower
The appearance of the natural geographical elements.

For instance – I did not like the ocean dots on your previous maps because
they overpowered the look of the ocean. I think with this map you have got
Them perfect. The ocean dots fade back to the point where they are still visible
for game purposes but are not the primary visual factor in the ocean.

On the other hand, I think that the land hexes are too strong on this map.
It would be nice if you could reduce the “Checkerboard” effect.
It is very noticeable in areas of desert and open spaces.
The hex borders overpower the desert and tend to become
the dominant visual theme.

I can appreciate your problem with the land hexes. They are overpowering in the
Desert; but in areas around say Vancouver they disappear almost completely
Because of the way the terrain is rendered and colored.

You might try different colors or widths for the hex borders. The object being
To make the hex borders fade back visually but still show up just enough to
Be game useful. This is very hard to do consistently across the whole map.

In my humble opinion you are doing a wonderful job with these maps.

Thanks,

Bravo Zulu.

@berto - the colors and tonemapping for the 'new' map are finished. since the whole thing is a prelude to my 'yamato damshii' mod, there may be some changes in color or tone when i'm done with the translation. i'm reviewing the artwork ever so often, but i still love the look of it. so, don't expect anything to change in the near future... sorry.
My loss.

Typically, I'm the odd man out.

There is a tendency in game maps lately -- WITE, WITW, TOAW 3.4, recent JTS games, etc., and now also the JATM map -- towards lighter pastels.

I prefer my game maps dark and gritty.

So I prefer the original, legacy graphics in TOAW 3.4. That game's newer graphics: meh.

I'll continue to prefer WITP:AE's original map, with its darker, grittier look. (Or maybe your earlier map mod(s).) I find this game's original artwork to be visually quite stunning. Still works for me!

Having alternatives, freedom of choice: They're key to most everything.

Keep up the good work, regardless.
