Fort questions

Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: The German-Soviet War 1941-1945 is a turn-based World War II strategy game stretching across the entire Eastern Front. Gamers can engage in an epic campaign, including division-sized battles with realistic and historical terrain, weather, orders of battle, logistics and combat results.

The critically and fan-acclaimed Eastern Front mega-game Gary Grigsby’s War in the East just got bigger and better with Gary Grigsby’s War in the East: Don to the Danube! This expansion to the award-winning War in the East comes with a wide array of later war scenarios ranging from short but intense 6 turn bouts like the Battle for Kharkov (1942) to immense 37-turn engagements taking place across multiple nations like Drama on the Danube (Summer 1944 – Spring 1945).

Fort questions

Post by Chris21wen »

In the latest beta the change log states

'Fort level 2 can be built only next to a fort unit, in coastal zones or up to 3 hexes from a supplied enemy unit.'
'Fort level 1 can be built only up to 20 hexes from a supplied enemy unit.'

Neither of these two statements seems to be correct as they stand, I have units built up to level 2 in Rostov/Bataysk and the closest German unit is still over 28 hexes away.

The original fort rules stated that

'Forts cannot be increased in size to greater than 2 if the hex is more than 25 hexes from an enemy unit.'

This now appears to be no longer true. Correct?

Could you please clarify what the term 'Dense Terrain' means when applied to level 3 and above forts?

Last one, I know level 4 & 5 forts do not require units to maintain them. What about level 3 forts?

If you are allowed to build higher fort level, then you may do so, even if conditions for lower fort levels are not met. Therefore in Rostov you can build up to level 3 without building a fort (4 with a fort).

"dense terrain" - CV from AFV/AC/SPW elements is halved, CV from infantry elements is doubled when fighting in such terrain (applies to attacker and defender, based on defender's hex).

Thanks

Got it, the ability to build a higher fort level takes precedence.

Got the 'dense terrain'.

What about the hex range and fort maintenance questions?

Hex ranges as are described in new fort level rules, so range 20 for level 1 and range 3 for level 2 (unless other fort rules trigger and allow that or higher fort level).

I think fort level 3 detoriates as normal.

Is this level 5 fort construction working as intended?

Rule is: Fort level 5 can be built only in cities with large port containing a fort unit.

But this is not a city, its a town but a level 5 fort is being constructed.
