2014 - A good year for Wargaming

Post by Max 86 »

As the year comes to an end I wanted to take a moment to reflect on my gaming in 2014. Due to Slitherine/Matrix turning out fine games I have had a really fun time this year with many of your titles.

I have played through BA, most of PC, DWU, most of CmdOps and a few others. All very nice games that I enjoyed immensely. Really good stuff. Haven't got around to WitP:AE yet but plan to start a campaign on Dec7 this year since it falls on a Sunday. Pearl Harbor and all.

It was about this time last year when I bought a bunch of those, right before and during the holiday sale. I will be doing the same this year too. I have my Matrix list ready and am looking forward to the sales. I am hoping to play thru SOW, BA2, CMANO, FCRS in 2015. Warhammer, SC3 and a few others have piqued my interest too. 2015 is shaping up quite nicely.

Slitherine/Matrix are releasing great games faster than I can play them....thanks for that! Rather feast than famine anyday!

Hope everyone has a great Holiday Season. Peace be with you. [:)]

I have almost nothing polite or nice to say about 2014.

But that has nothing at all to do with wargaming as well.

The last few years sure have seen some steady volumes of wargaming releases.

Wargaming has conquered the tablet, and conquered Steam.
Wargame, 05% of the time.
Play with Barbies 05% of the time.
Play with Legos 10% of the time.
Build models 20% of the time
Shopping 60% of the time.
Exlains why I buy em more than I play em.

This reminds me about interview article of Chris Taylor in finnish game magazine. Chris had proposed game idea to some big wit game publisher. He had been turned down with explanation that computer games are dying regardless about Ati and nVidia breaking sales records with their high end game graphic adapters. Chris decided to show off, and then he made Supreme Commander. I hope you know the game at least by the name...
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Well 'Surpreme Commander' might not be an entirely unique moniker to a point :)

But I have seen some very impressive titles come to tablet, a realm a lot said could never really happen.

Russian Front from Hunted Cow is no small potatoes wargame though.

The only thing 'dying' in wargaming, is the old buggers :) I don't think the products are having troubles.

Wargaming has been dieing ever since I was a kid nearly 50 years ago. It's just the old fogey's tired of the same ole same ole that preach the end of wargaming is near. I must agree it's good to be young and into wargaming as there was a lot out ther to entice. But, in truth things do start to get samey after 50 years of playing the same things. I can understand the rebel yell of wargaming is dieing. It will for us in just a few short years and I think that makes us happy that we got to live the best part of wargaming in our time. [&o] I honestly can say I'm glad I lived in the pioneer years of computer wargaming. All those new and different titles were overwhelming when I was young.

Matrix/Slitherine/AGEOD remind me of what it was like to go from Avalon Hill's "one game a year" production plan to the avalanche of games that exploded out of James Dunnigan and SPI! The wargame industry was never the same again [&o]
Love & Peace,

My old Piczo site seems to be gone, so no more Navajo Nation pics :(

On behalf of old buggers everywhere, can i just say that I resemble that remark. [;)]
