Units destroyed in July/ August 41

Not very many Russian units lost which is bad news for the Germans

The positions in China at the end of July/August 41

Japan is almost in place to begin Pacific operations despite being neutral.

Why did the US keep picking options with its tension levels so high? Once I have Gear Up and both tension pools over 17, I don't pick anything until War Appropriations. Each turn early for War Appropriations gets you over 40 extra build points over the course of the game, so is worth far more than any and all other options.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Good point about the US options with high tension.

My concern this time was resources to Russia although with the Germans limited advances in July/August perhaps that was not that urgent.

Sep/OCt 41 Axis impulse 1 ( impulse 1 ) Rain in Arctic

Germany land, Italy and Japan combined.

Japan moves Transports and troops in preparations for a wider war, it is slow due to neutrality.

Germany ground strikes Smolensk, disorganizing 1 unit.

ground strikes SW Dnepropetrovsk disorganizing 2 of 3 units.

Italy ground strike disorganizes 1 CW unit near Tripoli.

Germany attacks Smolensk in rain with HQ support. City is taken but one Russian unit escapes shattered and one German unit is lost and 4 disorganized.

attack SW Dnepropetrovsk takes out 2 Russian units but the Arm escapes shattered.

Yes, the May/Jun losses were high, I tried the strong city defenses which cost the Germans time and a few losses and slowed their march east.

The July/August losses were not as bad and the line Smolensk and Dniepr river line held reasonable well.
September/October will be crucial, bad weather would be welcome and as it turns out the first impulse was mainly rain.

The Russians now will have to decide how to run and preserve forces. The Germans have spent a lot of oil are a bit tight already.

CW naval, Russia land, rest combined.

CW naval air in E Med misses damaging an Italian CA, it only aborts.
Russia ground strikes 3 hexes in the south but only hits 2 armor in one hex, but it will weaken attacks on the east of the river.

Kalinin factory railed east.

The rain and disorganized units in key positions limit the German attacks to just one northeast of Smolensk, A Russian small unit was shatterd.

HQ Rundstedt reorganizes key units in the south Dniepr region.

Air rebases to front line positions.

CW takes the last of the Vichy Equatorial Africa areas. Vichy ships rebase to West Indies Vichy areas.

Russia is holding a straightened line but is vulnerable to possible fine weather next impulse.

Italian SUB aborts 2 CW convoys from N Atlantic.

Germany ground strike at Dnepropetrovsk was stopped by a Russian Ftr intercept, German Lnd and Russian Ftr shot down.

German ground strike SW Berliansk disorganized 2 Russian units.

German ground strike NW Gomel failed.

The map shows the three attacks made. All were high odds Blitzes and worked fine. Stalino was taken by a blitz advance.

The Russians will now have to run as best they can.

Russia rails Tula factory to the east.

Russian units back off as best they can to escape eastwards and deny the Germans an open advance route.
