[RELEASED] Terrorists in Anjar, 1984 -- new beta for testing

Post by Mgellis »

A new beta for testing. This one pits part of the Israeli air force against a battalion-sized terrorist group operating out of the Lebanese town of Anjar.

Destroying the terrorists will involve not only identifying and destroying the targets, but possibly dealing with Syrian forces as well--Anjar is near the Syrian border and Syria may try to interfere with the operation. Not to mention that you have to avoid blowing up the innocent people who live in Anjar, who are basically being used as human shields by the terrorists.

I personally found this one rather challenging when I was testing it, so I'm interested in hearing what people think about it. Suggestions, comments, etc. are all welcome. Thanks!

Great scenario!

I really enjoyed it so far!

I tried to do a similar scenario once but more ISR heavy. The problem encountered then and also in your scenario is a somewhat awkward logic when it comes to ID:ing ground targets.

Nice scenario. Noted a couple things:

- no points were granted for killing the terrorists
- The civilian mobile units tended to group together at times, at one point there was a convoy of about 5 of them together
- I killed all the terrorists in about 2 hrs. Perhaps that should end the scenario, not sure how to make that event work though. Either that or a message that something else might happen.
- You may want to set the doctrine to Evade OFF and RTB when Winchester OFF
- The infantry had some weapons, 81mm Mor OK but one of them had something simply called HE with an 8nm range - not sure what that was. Anyway I turned them to AI engagement OFF because I didn't want to risk Collateral damage.

Good fun and an interesting set up. Scored a minor victory with 180 pts, all terrorists killed and the SAMs and radar near the town destroyed. Damaged three buildings and got messages for that but the point deduction was manageable and with the way the town is set up - very difficult to avoid.

Thanks

B

Event for killing terrorists has been added. This will probably increase the final score for people a lot of the time. Gunner98 is right...killing all the terrorists should raise your score to the point where the game ends automatically, unless you've already lost so many planes, etc. that you're going to end up with a low score. In that case, I'm not sure how to get the game to stop...because there are multiple terrorist units, even identifying the destruction of one specific one as the trigger for stopping the scenario could give you a bizarre result...what if that's the first unit you destroy?

You could make scoring events for a non player side where each terrorist unit killed increases the score by 1. If theres 5 terrorist units then you can make an event that when the non player side's score reaches 5, the scenario ends?

That's a very slick solution. I was going to suggest a point threshold for the player but I think Tomcat's idea is more elegant.

I like it. It also addresses another question...what if your victory condition is "three destroyers." Right now you can't do that in Command...except if you have a non-player side that gets one point PER destroyer, you can trigger the scenario to stop when that side reaches 3. Nice!
