Plot Course function stuck

Aircraft in some scenarios [Stand Up and others] on my machine can't be properly assigned courses. When I hit Plot Course, it sticks like a magnet to some far off place and can't be altered - any attempt to create waypoints cancels them and returns it to the original spot.

Weirdly, this only happens on one of my computers and not the other. It's obviously a non-starter as I can't exert any meaningful control over some of my aircraft. For instance, in Stand Up I can only send my S-2s in a vaguely SSE direction, even though I can control my other aircraft just fine.

Is there anything I can do to help out here?

What are the differences in the two systems?

Anything special about the mouse?

Steam or matrix version of the game?

Are these airplanes assigned to any patrol missions by any chance?

If so, pause the game and plot a course. Does it make a difference?
