counter numbers question

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

unfirmilar with the numbering system used on the counters. what do they

Not the best graphic but this shows the four different counter display options including the new garrison and name options. IMO the name option will be great for AARs.

I like the idea of counters with just the unit names. Eisenhower or Rommel never had units which showed a combat value so this makes it more realistic just having the unit name without some "combat value" for one to use to make decisions.

Combat values are results of recon/forward patrols.I believe they are not always 100% accurate as well. Also they only show when close to the unit when playing FoW rules.

I'm assuming that having counters just show the unit name is for both sides so one wouldn't have a feel for their own unit's combat strength as well as their opponent.

I'm looking forward to this to see how it goes.

Your own units strength is available to you,the opponets number of artillary, afv's,squads etc shows during battle.Fog of war always applies, the enemy units value shown is not always 100% accurate.

I know but playing without seeing a CV value for either side would add a bit more realism for me.

the combat strength listed is there  based on recon, units which are not represented in the game because of their small size. Not always 100% accurate,as in real life. How does making the  cv value of your own units take  away from the realism??They are your units, how would you not know their cv value?????
