True to my word, I must to bed hie, in order to give the Cardinals an opportunity to win. Nighty night.

I just watched the Nats lose in 6 hours. Set a postseason record for game length, and longest Nats game ever both in terms of time and innings.

J. Zimmermann to the 9th inning, gets 2 outs. 1-0 Nats. 2 guys on base, and Pablo Sandoval doubles to score a run. Goes to the 18th inning and we lose on a mistake pitch.

If it had been about 15 degrees warmer (it's only about 50' F here tonight), several of the Nats' long fly balls might have made it out. It got colder and windier as the game went on. Other than Belt's home run, the Giants didn't really hit anything that hard all night.

Rough game to watch.

For the Nats game - has the manager been taken to task for removing Zimmerman after the bogus walk? Looked like most of the balls were strikes.

They were really, really close pitches. Could go either way. That was a rough walk. I wouldn't have pulled him. He had a chance to get a postseason shutout. That's pretty special.

The Nats do like to pull their starters early. In the case of Gonzalez and Strasburg, I think that makes sense. Those guys can be inconsistent. In the case of Zimmermann and Fister, not so much.

Congrats to KC!
Looks like it's back to the eighties in the AL: Baltimore hasn't been to/won a WS since '83, KC since '85.

And Kansas City has the opportunity to kick not one, not two, but THREE different teams from California out of the playoffs. Good for them.

The news in Colorado is comparing them to the Rockies of a few years back when they swept their way through the playoffs only to GET SWEPT against their AL competitor, DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN!

If you were watching the Giants game last night you would have seen something
that has never been seen in the history of baseball.

"In fact, not only did Ishikawa become just the fifth player with a walk-off hit in a decisive NLCS game. He was the first to do so with a home run."

As a NL Braves fan I'm pulling for the Giants but I don't think they can beat KC.

Out of the starting field, no awful result can happen in the World Series (Yankees, Dodgers, Oakland, Braves, St. Louis, Philadelphia are AWFUL results - I grew up a Met fan who is the son of a NY Giants fan).

Now in Minnesota I'm stuck with the abomination that is the DH but I see the Royals on TV fairly often and in person once in a while. The Giants are still traitors - leaving NY, but the crime is the Dodgers - they wanted to leave and the Giants went with them (so I missed Willie Mays in his greatness).

Congrats to the Royals!
Great to see a team that hasn't been there in a long time succeed, hopefully they can win it all.

I have to admit baseball has fallen off my radar since 1994. They quit on me so I quit on them and have never gone back. Yeah, I can hold a grudge. Shame really. I used to be so into it, especially through playing table top APBA.

Alas and alack, the Nationals are done. I used to catch 6-9 games at the Big Owe when I lived in Vermont. I went to watch my Mets, but there were some REALLY good players in Montreal in the early 1990s.
