What a day in the city of Ottawa

Hey my friends at Matrix:

Just wanted to tell you that I had one frigging day today in what people are calling "Ottawa's own 911". Even though I find that statement way overboard, needless to say being locked-down in your office building for about 80% of your working day is not pleasant, especially when everything next to our office which is about a 5 minute walk to parliament building was crawling with police, military, Paramedics and people running every which way but loose trying to to get out of the way......

First time ever and I mean ever had I seen RCMP Officers and Ottawa Police Forces in person carrying automatic weapons. This just doesn't happen in Canada!!! Just wow! School were under lock-down stranding my wife in classes with a bunch of excited and unknowing children for almost 4 hours, daughter stuck on 22nd floor of her own Government Office Building with no place to go etc.....

Even though I still support peace in every way possible, this was pretty scary for the most part and finally got escorted out of our building and put on city buses to get us home a few hours ago.

In Canada when our famous "Tim Horton's" coffee shops close down in the center core? we are indeed in trouble??? LOL!

Going to work form home tomorrow..............hehe!

All our vending machines were out of food, even the crappy chips and stale chocolate bars...........Thank goodness I brought a lunch today for one of those rare times.

I have a niece that ended up locked down in Ottawa at her university as well.

Naturally my mother had to phone and blather on about how she's frightened.

It's nearly embarrassing to be honest. But I have to remember, we have had one of our troops at the memorial shot and I hear he died of the injury. But still, I suspect we might be over reacting. Then again, if they had made it into our government spaces, well that sure would have mattered.

I can see a LOT of changes on procedure coming out of this for Ottawa shortly.

But I am not comfortable labeling this some sort of 9/11. Nope, I sat through that horrible experience. I was never closer than a TV screen, and it still bothers me. Using 9/11 as a catch phrase is wrong. It diminishes the true horror that was done on that day.

I don't think much would be getting done at your office radic.

Totally being blown out of proportion,never heard anyone us the phrase "Ottawa's 9/11" that's an insult in my books.But all I know is 2 young men are dead for nothing.

Yep labeling it 911 is way off the charts! Just saying what radio stations and talk shows were calling it. I too remember being stuck in Gander Newfoundland on 9-11, even though I am Canadian, it felt so far away from home and especially seeing all those Americans desperate for news is something I will never forget.

I just have never seen this city in such turmoil and I have lived here since 1979. I am on the third floor of our office building and look directly on the Peace Tower every day, I will never look at it the same way again.

We here in Ottawa can walk right up to Parliament building and stand on the door steps without ever being checked or looked at by Security, and I have done many a Protest on the front lawns there, guess from now on changes will be made, thus restricting our Liberty. In a way the Terrorists have won.............In the mean time my poor wife is still stuck at school as some parents have not been able to pick up their kids yet as the traffic situation getting out of downtown is horrendous.

I was working 911 and this ain't no 911. Just Ottawa - the city of dreams - having a restless nap.
If our politicians feel they are in danger we will see some real security instead of the pretend
stuff we have now. Apologies to those who have to put up with this and I feel terrible about the
loss of life but Ottawa is a place I have always seen as Disneyland North. Especially when I lived there.

Is no country immune to Terrorist spite? Canada was one of the last countries I would have expected to be hit by terrorists.

I hope this incident doesn't result in the kind of overreaction and erosion of rights that we saw here in the US after 9/11

I really hope that doesn't happen You are right, when people live in fear and freedom is willingly surrendered in the name of safety, the terrorists have won... the very sad truth.

What irks me is apparently they aren't even allowed bullets for their weapons when acting in that duty.

I'm very sorry to hear about what seems to be a 'home grown' extremist attack. We've had our share too, Canada. Still, it's a terrible thing to work through. My sympathies are with the victims' families.

Just now I just feel a great sadness, and I feel old and tired, and a I do not know how to express myself.

I always thought that the world gets better for each year that goes by... but not any more. It has been replaced by a sadness.

I am truly sorry about the events that took place in Ottawa but I do not find the words that I want to say.
