Special Forces? Uses?

Post by chazz »

Playing as the Allies - I see that early in the war you get a Royal Marine Commando unit in Burma, and the independent companies
of Aussies delegated to SE Pacific Command.

Any tips for using them?

Use them as you would use any other unit.  Bear in mind that small units, smaller than brigade size, are pretty much useless in frontline combat situations.

They're useful for loading onto APDs and sending to un(der)-garrisoned locations. Especially in the Solomons.

You can fit the Aussie companies onto SSTs, though only in MOVE mode, so they can land only in unoccupied locations via sub. I did this once vs. Greyjoy, on the Refinery one hex outside Soerbaya, which I guessed was not occupied (it has no garrison requirement). We occupied the hex and caused some damage to the refinery. It was pure chrome, but kinda fun!

Otherwise, they're really only much good for taking unoccupied dots

If you use them to seize an unoccupied enemy base then your follow up troops can land without any penalty if they have not prepped. Land a non-prepped division at an empty enemy base without doing so and you will take massive disruption.
