PBEM-Unhandled Exception error

Post by jake1951 »

Been playing ATG PBEM for several years now through the several updates with no problems (Windows 7). My friend and I just upgraded to the new 220c update. When he began a new PBEM game and sent it over, I received an "Unhandled Exception Error" noted below when I tried to load the file. I could not open the PBEM files he sent. We tried several test games and I could not open his files. He can open mine, move some units, save and send back and I can't open it.

We have both wiped the original game off the HD and reloaded the downloaded ATG from Matrix Games and updated to 220c. I still can't open his files.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I previously posted this in the other public or game forum and it was suggested that I post here. As an aside, my friend just sent over a test game via his Gmail account instead of his Yahoo account and I can play that game. It would appear that the Yahoo email is the culprit, but I am not sure. Weird....

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

If gmail works but yahoo does not it must be an issue with yahoo corrupting the contents of the file.

I think i know as well. The save file is actually a zip file and I think yahoo does not like this.

Check the file size of the yahoo download, it might even be 0 ?

Other way to play is using dropbox.

Best wishes,
Vic

Just to say we have received a similar report with War in the East PBEM files and Yahoo mail.
We suggest to try with a different email provider.

In another job I had problems with yahoo has well. I think it has something to do with them converting the text encoding of some files.

Best wishes,
