CVE overloaded

Post by MuguNiner »

Greetings,

I have overloaded CVE Prince William. VC-28 had 16 AC and I thought that VB-2 had 12. But, after the order was issued I see there are VB-2 has 28 AC. (Note to self: clean glasses). Is there a penalty in the game for this? How much can I overload a CVE? Will there be any sorties during its voyage?

Thanks

You won't be able to fly any sortie ... the CVE is too overloaded

I think, you are fine below or around a 15% overload... but that is from memory

check this:

15.4.1.2 AIRCRAFT STATUS ON SHIPS
Aircraft on ships are assumed to have sufficient aviation support and supplies. However:
»» Planes on a ship may not fly if the ship’s combined System Damage and
Floatation Damage are greater than 50. They may transfer off the ship if
docked or at anchor at a base with an airfield with a size of at least 1 (they
are assumed to have been manually unloaded and taken to the airfield).
»» If the number of aircraft on board exceeds 115% of the
ship’s capacity, only Transfer Missions can be flown.
»» Planes won’t make an emergency landing (refer to 7.0.1.1.1.1
Emergency Landings) on another Carrier in such a way as to
cause it to exceed 110% of the carriers aircraft capacity.
»» A ship may never have more aircraft on board than twice its capacity

Thanks! Are there any penalties for slightly overloading a carrier, for example at 105%, compromise planes flown in missions?

No, there is no proportionality.

Two thread relevant thresholds only:

(A) 110% no emergency landings from other carriers

(B) 115% no flight operations (other than transfer fly off to land base)

Thus 109% exceeds no threshold, 114% only exceeds threshold (A), and 116% exceeds both (A) and (B) thresholds.

Does this also apply for Replenishment groups on CVEs in a replenishment TF?

Thanks for Info, Alfred. So this means that the CVEs the allied player gets from fall 1942 (those with 2 replenishment groups with 24/28 planes each) will have to send one group off-board to function in their replenishment role?

The replenishment role works as-is the way they arrive. But to have a squadron actually fly operational missions, you need to get the stacking level of the carrier down to within the limits that Alfred noted.

Ahhh,

thnx for the clarification. Are there any other stacking limits for the replenishment role? Or could I really fill them up to the 200% upper limit?
Cheers

No, you can have them fully loaded with both replenishment air groups at full capacity and they will still transfer aircraft to carriers that are in range and short of planes of the same type. The CVE has to be in a replenishment TF in order to do this. However a fully loaded CVE cannot perform any other flight operation. Although any over stacked carrier can always fly a group to a land base. So make sure you provide air cover for your replenishment TFs

Can a CVE that is not overloaded (for example , containing 1 VRF) provide replacements and provide for its own air cover? Or do replenishment TFs not allow flight ops?
