I found this TV show by accident.

I have never heard of this show before and the series was made between 1957 to 1958.

Here is a clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1nESHgqAnY

If you're looking for more than submarines, at that time there was also "Navy Log" which was stories of the Navy in general. At the same time, there was also "Men of Annapolis" and "West Point Story" which were stories of the academies. About a decade ago, someone did research and determined that those programs had a large impact on the application pool to the academies

This is where being "an old fart" has its' advantages..
In the early days of TV in the U.S., and soon after the Korean War....the armed forces budget allowed them to produce shows for TV which displayed different arms of their services.
The Silent Service was produced by the USN and the Army had a series called The Big Picture..Should be able to find them all easily on Youtube, etc..
The Big Picture gave unit histories of the more famous units, but also did half hour episodes on individual MOS's..very interesting at the time..

Gene Rodenbury was producing one of those shows about the Marines, I think it was called The Lieutenant. When he did an episode that was too controversial and the Marines didn't like it, it was quickly canceled. He then spent a couple of years kicking around how to do a show about his social ideas without getting crosswise with anyone and finally hit on turning it into science fiction set in the future.
