What...No Zombie Scenario?

Post by solops »

I am amazed. With all the zombie hype I figured there would be a USN CV floating around the world combatting zombies...
I see zombie ammo, zombie targets and zombie camo at the local sporting goods store, so I naturally expected a zombie scenario here :-)

Game feature where any amount of damage done by a zombie force to a non-zombie force transforms the non-zombie unit to the zombie side!

Zombies could be modeled by using a generic inf platoon and renaming them zombies. Just take away the weapons and the binoculars.

One big issue of course is that Command is not really geared for nitty gritty ground combat and it definitely is not geared for unarmed melee combat! The zombies would not have any weapons, certainly not ranged weapons. Another big issue is that a zombie scenario, unless it is being built as "playing hide and seek before they get to location X" is not going to be very challenging...ooo, zombies! What ever will I do, here, safe in my F-18, with several large bombs? I'll just have to drop them and head back to the carrier for more bombs. Oh, dearie me! On the other hand, if the adventure is "hide and seek," then it turns into "Where are they!? Where are those lousy zombies!? Here I am, in my F-18, ready to roast them, and I've got to do it before they get to London...but I can't find them! Where are they!?"

A really cruel version of hide and seek can be modeled with teleports...the zombies are only in the combat zone and vulnerable to attack at certain times. At other times, you are not going to spot them. Period. Because the game designer has cheated and taken them out of the combat zone. So, to kill them, you've got to be in the right place at exactly the right time or you will miss them. BUT THEY WON'T MISS LONDON!

I suppose if chemical weapons are ever modeled that one could let the zombies have chemical weapons, really short-ranged ones (IF "zombie bite" gets put into the database). Then, when target units get to a certain level of damage (10%?) they get teleported out and replaced with zombie units, to model the process of infection.

Sadly, the database designers seem strangely reluctant to put fantasy/sci-fi elements into the database. Many have been requested, including Godzilla, flying saucers, and mutant superheroes. And they just won't do it! I mean, honestly, you would think Command was a serious war game or something! ;)

I say no zombies without first seeing Godzilla (King of Monsters!), Rodan, Mothra and Reptilicus in the CWDB.

Absolutely! I can see the scenario now...Reptilicus vs. the Danish Navy, 1962! :) Oh, and we also need the giant octopus from It Came from Beneath the Sea, which takes on "the atomic submarine" (i.e., the Nautilus). It is a movie in which we are told "the Navy is not entirely incapable of speed." :)

And, while we're at it, I'd like the Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and its British cousin, the Giant Behemoth.

And the flying saucer from Earth vs. the Flying Saucers...those suckers are mean!
