Operation Vulture

Post by Lawdog1700 »

Ok, so I have to admit, I love any mission that involves SAC or older bombers. I played this mission in playtest and I thought it was incredibly hard. Since it was included in the latest Community Scenario Pack I figured I would give it another go. It went really well, I got a points victory after my first sortie (the scenario ended with he U.S. wiping out the Viet Minh around Dien Bien Phu). The Chinese did NOT join the fight, but I intend to play again and see what happens.

Thanks for posting the AAR. Is it too easy for the Player to win?

Well, to be honest it was very easy. The last time I played it, it was a massacre, i.e. I lost 27 B-36s on my first run.

From the player side, the Chinese Air didn't fire. So, I was left bombing the VM from 40,000 and I got the point victory before all my B-36s had even hit. It may have swung too far towards the player. Although, I thought this scenario was "realistic" in that the bombing of the VM went pretty much as it would have, I think, in reality had the United States taken this action. I don't think the Chinese would have intervened.

Maybe the solution is to raise the points level for the victory? I was much more impressed by the way the French were modeled in the current version, as opposed to the 1.0 version of this scenario.

Thanks for the input. As it has already been uploaded in the latest Community Scenario offering I'm not sure how to proceed with scenario updating. Will revisit the VP schedule and perhaps the Viet Minh OOB to include additional targets. Chinese intervention is triggered by chance using a random-time trigger or US incursions into PRC airspace but there is a probability that the USAF can accumulate enough VP to end the scenario before the Chinese join the fight.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, thanks again.
