Are Japanese barges infinite?

Post by darbycmcd »

The manual is not completely clear on this, can the Japanese player create infinite numbers of landing barges? I ask because my opp is using large numbers of them as ablative armor around some bases to blunt my bombardment TFs. Last turn there were 4 barge groups with 20 barges each, which take a bit of time to chew through. Thanks!

If your supply is infinite, yes. You haven't been fooling around with the editor, have you? [;)]

Oh and your opponent is being gamey. Tell him to knock it off or you'll find a better partner.

hahahaha, yes he is super gamey. But to be fair, he was totally upfront that he was going to be, so he did nothing wrong. I just had such a naive vision of what that meant! And it is kind of nice because it makes the game... i don't know, maybe more like a friendly in futbol or a preseason game in football....

There's no "friendly" in WitP-AE. No crying either. [:-]

edit: That's a Tom Hanks reference from "A League of our Own" for the non-Americans here.

Nope. There is a set number. You have a similar thing going on with landing craft and PT boats - look in the Ship Availability screen. Below the list of ships being produced, you'll also see ships that are produced for "free" (aside from the supply required to create them at a base) - PT Boats, MGBs, Barges, and Midget subs (for the Japanese). It will tell you how many are currently in the pools, and how many are delayed.

You can also look on the Summary page of Tracker to see how many PTs, SSXs, LBs, etc. that you and your opponent get.

You only lose them when they are sunk. Like PT's, if you disband them you can 'buy' them back a day later at a different location as long as you have the supply. The supply cost is like the diesel needed to transport them to the new location.

For the recycling of PTs - IF they are damaged do they need to spend any time in the shop? And some things seem gamey - IF you have used your torpedoes and are at a small base without the appropriate tender type ship, recycle and new torps.

Damaged PTs return slower, yes. Try it sometime - the UI will inform you how many days until return. The higher the damage, the higher the number of days.

That's not gamey, though I have disdain for nearly all cries of "gamey!" It takes supply to create PTs, and a certain threshold must be met to create them in the first place, which represents an investment in the base in question. This in turn is a way of abstracting PT operations. It's been said many times that simply creating the PTs at one base across the map after having disbanded them on the other side of the map is meant to abstract the PT being carried on an xAK or something similar.
