Im extremly WIF new, ? on rules

Post by freeboy »

Ive read allot here and in the DL manual..
But there are so many levels of what happens depending on which rules one uses..
My physical shipment is scheduled for today ... andy suggestions for what to focus on, is there an actual walk through tutorial, so far its just been watching tutorials not doing tutorials?

One way to learn how the basics work is to play the Polish campaign a few times.

Unfortunately you can't do it without playing the Global War campaign. But, fortunately, you can pass with all countries except Germany and CW and then it goes faster. You could use the Fast Start save that is included. Then you could ask others for their setup games.

Try to eliminate all Polish units west of the partition line in three German impulses without losing any German units. If you want you can control the weather by checking the set die rolls box.

without losing any German units

When playing against a player - that is entirely luck dependant sadly.
Try with the premade setup first but then toy with how you could "deploy" your forces yourself (Save the setup before Germany - which is last to setup; Poland will be set after Germany as part of the Turn1, Impulse1).

How do you mean "luck dependent sadly"?

The key word in my original sentence was try.
Try to eliminate all Polish units west of the partition line in three German impulses without losing any German units.

If you only make 7 to 1 attacks with +1 or better attacks then luck might have a small influence with losses or not. But if 3 to 1 assault is the best you get then I would say that luck has less to do with the losses.

Not sure because he didn't bother answering, but this is the whole point of WIF. There are NO guaranteed results, this is not some number-crunchers paradise. Random units, random weather, random dice - this game is designed to be infinitely replayable. There is a luck element - there has to be with a dice based game - but there is an enormous amount of skill involved, and unless a player just has "one of those games" the winner will be the one that makes the best decisions and reacts in the best way to adversity.
