[RELEASED] Battle Ocean '64 -- North Sea ASW, 1964

Post by Mgellis »

Here is the beta version for the second Battle Ocean '64 scenario...an ASW mission in the North Sea with a British task force hunting Russian submarines that have gotten too close to the coast of Scotland.

Please let me know what you think. Suggestions, comments, etc. about the scenario, especially the little details like the aircraft I've chosen, the weather, the style of the orders, whether all the Events work, etc. are all welcome. Thanks!

Hi

I´ve played it twice...damn subs! they really don´t want to be found.
I know ASW ops in shallow waters are difficult, but I believe I wasted nearly 300 sonobuoys chasing them to no avail.
The ships only got false contacts.
I´ll try it again later, I need to replan my patrol areas.

Thanks again

saludos

Okay, I have made one small change to the orders file to give people a hint...

B. ENEMY: ONE OR MORE SOVIET SUBMARINES BELIEVED TO BE IN WATERS E OF ORKNEY ISLANDS AND NEAR NE COAST OF SCOTLAND. HUMINT SOURCES BELIEVE SUBMARINES WILL ATTEMPT TO PENETRATE TERRITORIAL WATERS NEAR KINLOSS.

That should help you find them. :)

Hopefully, it won't make it too easy. And, keep in mind, once you find them and start shooting at them...well...the other Soviet forces in the area may not take too kindly to that sort of behavior. They're funny that way.

Believe me Mark, I specially carpeted those areas with sonobuoys on my second game.
Besides, some where dropped manually to create dense overlapped patterns.
But that´s the nature of ASW and I accept it.

I´ll try it further next weekend.

Are you running a beta version? I'm running 1.04 stable, and cannot load this scenario....

Yes, sorry. I always end up writing scenarios with the most recent beta (unless it is horribly unstable) as that usually includes the most recent version of the database.

No luck finding the sub, sunk a false contact and was ready for a real shooting war but alas the Upornyy and the Blake continued their dance.  Had the Rorqual shadowing the AGI at the time as well and a fighter escort for the Recon Bear.  I picked up the contact with active sonar on the Hampshire - only to realize that it didn't have anything to shoot at a sub anyway, except for the helo of course but with a ready time of 4 hrs - I was keeping her on deck just in case.

Those CWDB loadout times are tricky to work with, had to juggle the Javelins quite a bit.

All nicely built, just no sniff at the sub.

Yeah it got pretty hot pretty fast.
Recommend you put a "submarine detected" trigger in to pause the game when a sub is found.
Apparently HQ isn't too happy with me... ;)

Any other suggestions or comments? Or is this ready for the Community Scenario Pack? Thanks.
