You mean they weren't isolated? Looks like restoring supply during the turn is not enough to get rid of the isolated penalty for the next enemy turn.

I think this is correct. There exists code that forces the unit to surrender if they can't rout to some near hex. In this case the units were too far from friendly controlled terrain/friendly units.

Yep, I was still supprised, when those guys surrounded.

But what I don't understand, the manpower/artillery don't surround, just suffer high casualties.

What's the result? The divisions will be rebuild, with lower morale, but the crew survied the battles?

I think the low defender losses on the battle report are just a problem of the battle report accounting. They should be added to the total losses though. The units will rebuilds from scratch.

I am very surprised by these results. The units should route out of the pocket. A quick test confirmed this. Units were able to route 12 hexes away from the pocket. Would this not be the case here?

Have you tried to isolate them on one turn, break the pocket on the next and then reseal it and immediately attack?

Also, image in this post fb.asp?m=3697923 suggests it was 20 or more hexes away from supplied friendly territory.

I think it looks like the routing unit can only spend up to 40MP on retreat, if the retreat cost is higher the unit will be destroyed.

And my guess is it's not possible to retreat to another cut-off pocket (in this case the one centered on Zaporozhye), but to supplied area (as far back as Kirovograd).

Yes, pocket was broken twice then resealed and immediately attacked. But your explanation regarding 40 MP is very interesting. How is the retreat cost actually calculated? Just like normal movement?

I'm afraid I can't give you details unless you will prepare such surrender situation and I will debug it.

So it was a bug, or normal (but rare) game rules?

IMHO it's the second option (normal but rare).

I can confirm this. Divisions will surrender if no city/town is available for units to route into within 20 hexes. I was able to recreate this in a quick test.

the 6th Army could not break out, because they had no fuel left... just like Wiking.
