Disney War Movie and General Mitchell?

Post by Footslogger »

I was actually looking for the Sahara 1943 Movie, but saw this and had questions.

According to the movie, General Mitchell tried to warn us about the coming war. But he was ridiculed and laughed at.

Is this the first time Walt Disney has done a war film?

Here is the complete movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nmd7Xisflnk

Enjoy!

Saw this movie years ago at Origins game convention in Columbus Ohio USA.
Mr. Disney made MANY war films (almost all were training films.

A interesting movie, many things from a technical stand point you can criticize.

Teddy Roosevelt predicted conflict between the West and Japan after he helped end the Russo/Japanese War. Mitchell was not alone and I doubt many laughed at him. I think that most in the military and political sphere knew it was coming.

The War Department mapped out all possible military scenarios including war with the UK. War Plan Orange which was the plan for war with Japan was given a high likelihood.

About the time the US started settling the west coast of North America the US started considering it had dominion over the Pacific Ocean and attached seas. As Japan industrialized, they felt the Pacific and Asia was their territory to conquer/control. Conflict between the two became almost inevitable at that point. When the rivalry started, the US was somewhat stronger than Japan, but the US population was much larger, it controlled a lot more natural resources, and it had a head start on an industrial base.

Saw a show on the military channel a few years ago about a german double agent who warned the US government about the Japanese interest in the results of the British CV attack on Turranto,(spelling) Italy. Yeah we knew. They blew him off of course....GP

Completely missing Joseph Reeves showing attacking Pearl Harbor was possible back in the 20s.

They produced over 400,000 feet of propaganda film from 1942 to 1945 (each second is 1.5 feet with 35mm film), when they previously had only produced around 27,000 feet a year before the war. The first films they did were on navigation for the navy and you can find more info here:
