In the first combat, the DDs were in a stern chase and though faster than the transports, the transports must have zigged when the DDs zagged and they missed one another in the dark. In the second, the Allied TF was detected before they got in radar range. Maybe a land based observer saw them or something. In any case the transports were able to turn tail and get out of there. In the third combat, you had good visibility conditions and the Allied TF was able to close on the hapless escorts.

In the first two, Allied radar would not have been completely effective operating near land. The Japanese may have been lost to back scatter from an island.

Overall it looks like you got some bad dice rolls.

Is the game really as detailed as you are suggesting ie 100% real life?

It's a plausible real-life correlation to what the game algorithms produced. That's part of what game algorithms are supposed to do.

The possibilities in the code are numerous. The naval code especially is full of low probability events like ships blowing up in port and I wouldn't be surprised if this was due to some low probability event happening.

I can vouch for losing important ships in explosions at port. I also get more than my share of collisions.

I think it works very well.

It is detailed enough, but the real catch is the level of abstraction. With a bit of fantasy most ingame situations pass the plausability check.

Edit:
Ingame the first two engagements were at night with a max visibility of around 10k where both TFs never closed to visual range, and the last engagement was in broad daylight with both TFs obviousely searching for the engagement.
