Artillery and hitting command units

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Artillery and hitting command units

Post by mikeCK »

I keep getting messages that "an enemy command post had been located in grid ....". What setting do I have to have my artillery on so that it automatically fires at these targets? Is this not possible? I have tried counter battery and "on call" but they won't fire.

Also, when I have a gun set to "counter battery" I have yet to see it fire at enemy artillery unless I do it manually. Is the "counter battery" working as designed as far as you know?

Click the FSCC button when you start a scenario or in the game.

That will have them do auto-targeting.

As noted in a few other posts, CB fire is broken from some changes in 2.04. We are working on a fix for the on map CB fire for the 2.06 update. Direct Support and off map CB will be worked on for 2.1 with the full arty overhaul we have planned. Once we get past testing on some other bugs and tweaks this week we will check out the CB changes and let you guys know how that is progressing.

You say that Direct support is not working and you will fix it until 2.1. If I understand it well, this feature will not be working after 2.06. Than why not delete it from order menu for now? I gueass it would be cleaner.

Ok, sorry. I had seen it was broken in 2.04 but thought it has been fixed. Forgot about the FSCC, thanks!

Pekische, that's a great idea. I will fold it in to the 2.06 update.

Both Counter Battery and Direct support should be working in 2.06+.

Worth pointing out for this discussion (I think) that CB fire is governed (as I understand it) by national characteristic settings in the spreadsheets. Some nations detect better than others.

WABAC, that is true. Also EW effect the chance as does the type of outgoing fire. Plus the order can get out prioritized in the FSCC chain if that is on.

Thanks for confirming my other suspicions. [;)]

That's why I turn the FSCC on selectively. And even when it is on I order a lot of missions on the units I can see before the FSCC gets to shoot away at what may have been detected somewhere at sometime.

We will be reworking a lot of the arty system for 2.1. Clean up the FSCC function, better target priority and mission timings etc. Should fix a number of things.
