Saigon also has a medium sized ship yard - starts about 15 IIR. The Japanese could have expanded it.

EDIT: In stock Saigon SY starts 10(40), so the HI and supply cost to start the (40) is already paid and they would just have to spend the 40K supply over 40 days to finish the expansion.
Saigon is a good place for the Japanese to repair/upgrade ships that are being used in the IO. Singapore can be raided by carrier aircraft flying across Sumatra.

I am going to go around the map and give you an overview of what is happening overall in the game. This might be a long one :]

Thailand March 1944

NJP has 3 units about 4400 strength at Chiang Mai. He has 10 units at Rahaeng and probably at least 30K troops. I have staked out the 25th Indian division in the jungle rough hex to the west to prevent any surprise breakouts.

Do not have intel on Bangkok or Ayuthia yet. I will have that tomorrow. The 2nd Hyderband Lancers routed a unit out and liberated Tavoy. I will have the Tenth USAAF air HQ landing from port blair starting next turn. The 50th Armored Tank Brigade is stationed in the woods 2 hexes Northwest of Bangkok waiting for the arrival of the 254th ARmored brigade just to the NE. Once intel shows on what is in Bangkok and Ayuthia I will have better info on how to proceed. An AA unit is on the way from Moulmein but it will be probably 2 weeks before it arrives.

I thought Mergui was empty so I dropped 70AV of the 23rd LRP brigade on top of the 14th Naval Guard Unit. The unit was so suprised it was routed losing over 400 men to just 6 allied casualites.

Because of my successes and positioning I am re-routing a major portion of my amphibious landing task forces to Columbo to pick up the 11th East African Division for assault on Victoria Point. There are between 4,000 and 7,000 troops there. I was going to hold off but NJP says I already set of the Kamakazi's.

I wonder if that is Psy ops... How would you feel if you found out later that your opponent had lied about something like that to take advantage of you in the game? I thought about it and personally I would laugh and think it was a pretty good tactic. I am going to plan for the possiblity of them but will not change plans nor set them off unintentionally (again) unless I see concrete evidence of the fact. Once a plane hits one of my ships everybody will be sure.

120 miles east southeast of Taung Gyi there are 2 Japanese units for a total of about 4,000 troops waiting across the river. Probably a back door protection force. I only have the 1st Middlesex Bn across the other side at 24AV so I am not going to assault them. Going to garrison up and do the same thing he is doing. Hopefully in better supply.

The general plan for Thailand is as other people have discussed. Roll through with armor and wave as you pass. Going to need a little better intel but we will probably be off to the races soon.

China March 1944

I am not sure what I did, maybe he got spooked because he figured I was going to surround him and cut off his supply but the siege that NJP had at Chungking was ended and he backed his troops off. Now it appears he is heading for the city again. I have over 4K AV at the city still so no worries about that. I want him to burn as much supply as he wants to in this theatre.

The 39th Indian Division just tangled with parts of the 143rd Infantyr Battalion and the 2nd Raiding Regiment east of Lashio. The 39th plans to drive to Paoshan to confront the invaders there and hopefully open up a supply route to the heart of China.

I have about 500 AV converging on Kunming where it is reported he has 9000 troops. If I can take that city then I think that NJP is heading back to Kweiyang.

Since it looks like you're about to fight for Luzon, I would consider grabbing Singapore for that repair yard... even if you don't use it for capital ships, it sure fixes escorts (like Fletchers!) right quick.

RE: What could possibly go wrong? Wargamr(A) vs njp72(J)

Thailand March 3, 1944

I dropped about 50 AV into Arythia on the 1st of March. NJP immediately started to advance north into the hex. Meanwhile, an Allied Armored regiment began crossing the river into the base. At the end of the second day I have managed to airlift another 100AV of a division and a regiment into the hex. By the time he enters the hex tomorrow I should have 400-450AV in the hex including 200AV of armor.

I left another 200AV armor unit just west of Bangkok to stand on the rail line and ensure he doesnt get significant reinforcements from the south.

Bankgkok has 6 units and about 28,000 troops in it so I am guessing he is moving about a division worth of troops to fight them. He would be better off not entering the hex and leaving his forces in Bangkok. I also cut off 6-10 units north of Bangkok that would likely have strat moved into Arythia.

Northern Sumatra March 3, 1944

NJP has retreated into a base that I cannot pronounce. He had troops in Sibogla holding shut the back door but he moved them and I paratrooped in and shut that door. There are at least 13 units at Tandj... I am holding off moving all my forces from northern bases because I feel NJP may have one counterattack planned somewhere. Taking Sibogla almost eliminates this from being an issue.

Will move base forces from Sinabang into the base.

Once the area is cleaned up the troops will cross over to Malaya.

Southern Sumatra and Java March 3, 1944

NJP was trying to send reinforcements to Oosthaven by rail when I took it. They were stuck in the jungle rough hex 2 hexes NW of Oosthaven. I have 5 armor units in the hex just north of that where I met his troops on the open plains. Now we see what a shock attack against unprotected units looks like. It could go bad for me but I dont think so.

NJP has 1-2 units on Bangka and as soon as I can allocate some paratroops I will be dropping them on one base of the island and moving in an armor unit to take it over. By that time Palembang will be almost completely isolated and useless to NJP for fuel or other support. Billiton just went to level 2 airfield so I can start hosting dive bombers out of there as well.

I have a division and an armor unit prepping for Singkawang to finish off northwest Borneo.

The one thing slowing me down on south Sumatra is the troops isolated at Bandoeng. It cannot be bombarded by ships and has about 200 guns so the big important ones. It has sent several airgroups into the repair yards for quite some time. However, The flak stopped rising a day or two ago. I have also brought in quite a bit of armor and will be attacking this turn or next turn. Once I manage to kick him out of the base it will free up at least 3 divisions to move north.

Mindano March 3, 1944

In late February I took Palwan and 2 other bases on one day with paratroops. Last turn I took Cebu and 3 other bases. I have already scouted most of the bases south of Luzon.

Today I am moving a bunch of remaining paratroopers to Dieos to send them northwards as well.

Busanga is the kamakazi line. All bases south of that word are ok. All bases north trigger the Kami option. NJP has said I already triggered it but I have not seen any planes dive into ships yet so I am going to respect it for a short time.

I show 1 small recon unit on Panay so I am getting an armor unit up to the area for when I drop on the west most base.

Once all these dot bases are taken care of which should take less than 2 weeks we move onto the main island of Luzon. The timing depends on how heavily he has it defended. I only see 13K troops at Manila. Likely I will make more gains on Davao before I commit troops to the island. I could also build up Panay and I need to scout north of Luzon as well for any bases of opportunity.

There has been no airforce activity from Luzon yet.

As for Mindano, the 2nd marine landed 1 hex south of Davao and has been building up Dieos ever since. 2 regiments of another division will arrive this coming turn and then troop transport after troop transport after that. 3 divisions plus are heading there now and I will provide more as needed. It appears that NJP is sir robin'ing at the 2 inside hexes of Mindano.

Papua and New Guinea March 3, 1944

NJP had troops marching north from Madang to attack a construction unit when I dropped the 25th Infantry Division into Hansa Bay. The unit won a battle and proceeded to follow the retreating units into Madang. There are quite a few units there but they may be out of supply. Bombardment will yield more info on the troops currently in there this turrn.

A division just moved into Lae and will be joined by a division moving SE into Lae. That will happen within 4-6 days. Once these troops are eliminated and the base to the east then I will have at least 3 more divisions ready to deploy north. One is ready to land on Wolea and I think one for Tinian or Guam.

Welcome Charlie!!

We have a whole section of this forum for people looking for games!! It is quite amazing. The AI is pretty good if you folow the *script* otherwise it can be broken.

I heard it from a guy on TV but I am sure it was plagerized from somewhere else ;]

IT IS JUST NOT FAIR!!!!

NJP loses Singora due to auto flip because I have taken over Langkawi nearby. So he laboriously walked down the road from Alor Star and it took him 5 or 6 days. I didnt support the base because I didnt want to set off the Kamakazi's.

So... The day he gets Singora back....

ALOR STAR AUTO CONVERTS TO ALLIED!!! [:D]

He isnt getting this one back as easily!
