sctf penalties

Post by topeverest »

I recently was transiting about 50 DD's and several cruisers in a transport TF, and they encountered a chance surface combat.

Is there a penalty applied to ships in certain non-surface combat tf types when they get in combat?

I was most unsatisfied on that outcome.

Page 76/78 in the manual gives size limits

transport fleets can be up to 100
most others are limited to 25
The wording on Escort Task Force says up to 100 ships but will try to flee all enemy forces.
Transports might also try to avoid combat (but doesn't specifically say so).

How bad was it?

If you have that many ships to go around, you could have split them up into Transport (with a few DDs) a couple of ASW Task Forces (for those pesky subs) and a SCTF to punch any raiders in the face that come sniffing around -- set all to follow the Transport TF 0 hexes.

That many ships together can't possible act in a cohesive way. Probably, many of your ships didn't even fire a shot.
