the agony of choice ;-)

Post by MikeGER »

here are three times the map #1:

vanila, W1ll14m's , and The Plodder's interpreation showing the same part around Bad Neustadt we all know from 'A Time to dance' for comparison
(i tried to show the same spot in the same scale)

to find out what i am most comfortable with (tactical desions making wize - not in 'artistic beauty' kind of view) i used a saved game, renamed the 'Custom folders' and watch the last turn replay on all 3 maps
all have their pro and cons ...and its very subjective ...maybe even differ with scenario in use ...and 'zoom level' a player use most for his style of play

well, know that gave me the idea for a proposal for patch 2.06 (or 2.1)

below of :"Refresh subunit images from Disk" in the View menue
how about a :"Refresh map-art from Custom Folder selection" where a requester opens up within the map-diretory path where the user can pick from different "Custom-folders" in that path
(i have a 'Custom', 'Custom-A', 'Custom-B' at the moment and work with renaming before a game)

We may need to get fancier with the 3rd party content and how it is used. You can do what you want now by placing map sets in sub folders and just copying them to custom when you want a change.

...but not in an ongoing game [;)]
(beside a procedure: save game, exit program, exchange art-map, fire up program, relaod saved game, continue with different art)

yes ...and there are also 2 more versions by W1ll14m (winter and inverted colors for elevation)

so it could be up to 6 maps for one area to chose from [:)]
