Adjusting satellite trajectory/orbit

Post by RobsenK »

Hi,

I inserted a satellite with the editor in a scenerio I create.

How can I adjust the satellites trajectory/orbit?

Is it also possible to adjust trajectorys/orbits while playing a scenario (outside editormode)?

Hi

You cannot at this point. They're locked into to their existing orbits.

On a similar note concerning satellites, is there a quick way to reference a particular satellites orbital inclination and period (or geostationary longitude where applicable)? Short of looking up individual birds on a well known satellite tracking website, its basically guesswork at the moment.

You can select them and they will display the plot of an orbit (white line). Still need to work on more than that but need to do it without cluttering the UI (which is very difficult). Its a work in progress.

While we're on the subject, can we get a Boeing X-37? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_X-37
Seeing as how it's maneuverable, and carries a payload, it would have to be modeled as a aircraft as opposed to a satellite, but it would be nice to have.
Though surrounded by a great number of enemies
View them as a single foe
And so fight on!

That's the problem I find with using Sats thus far - unpredictability. I have no idea where and when a given sat will, or won't, pass over a scenario-important location.

Added request for X-37.

Definitely understand the issues with satellites.

Thanks!

X-37 also brings to mind the mig 105, almaz, and manned orbiting laboratory if additions can allow higher fidelity satellite options.
