Sound detectors - two questions.

Post by Dili »

1 - Do they have any influence in AA fire?

2- if they do, can they be put on ships?

Depends of course on overall noise level but aircraft engine frequency is bit different than other noises.

The ambient noise on a warship is way too high which would make the use of a sound detector futile. Anyone who has been stationed on a ship would tell you that with forced draft blowers, turbines, and simply wind noise generated due to the ship's speed though the water would make hearing ordinary speech difficult at times!

Sound detector devices in the game are of the "Ground Radar" type. Their game effect is the same.

For somebody who whines as much about the game as "Dili", it's amazing that he didn't know this.

For somebody who whines as much about the fourms as "Terminus", it's amazing that you still bother to post.

Sound detectors were installed in Italian merchants in Mediterranean* the sound of low level torpedo/bomber planes when the sea is not rough can travel far above the water at night and the biggest successes of British torpedo bombers were at night so even a slight early warning could change from an hit to a failure.

Here is a photo: http://regiamarinaitaliana.forumgratis. ... entry15576

It works also for ships while in port.

* also in picket boats but those are different since they were supposed to move slowly.

No need to exchange personal insults. I interpreted his question as being about whether some kind of device could be made in the database as a ship device and included in the equipment. It appears that was where the question was coming from. As far as I know, the Italians were the only navy that tried them on ships and even that is not well known. Other navies might have experimented with them, I don't know.
