Max Range

I'm looking at a Medium level bomber for the allies and i see it goes:

Max Range: 53 per hex
Extended Radius: 14 per hex

So my question is, is Max Range the ability of a plane to fly to target and back within the 53 hex limit?

ie: Fly 26 hexs to target and 26 hexs back to base from target for a total of 52 hexes in total putting me under the Max Range?

No, Max range is the range at which you can transfer planes from base A to base B

It means that the plane is bared of all mission specific equipment (guns, radio, ammo, etc). and just filled with fuel.
