[RELEASED] Caribbean Task Force Ruby, 1963 -- new beta for testing

Post by Mgellis »

My newest beta, ready for testing...

It's the Cold War. It's the Caribbean. You control a four-ship task force, a submarine, and some aircraft at NAS Key West. You must patrol the waters to the south of Cuba and find out if they are setting missile systems on their southern shores. Good luck!

As always, please let me know if you have any suggestions, if you spot any errors that need to be corrected, etc. Thanks!

Gave it a go. Interesting situation.

Never found much along the South coast. Once I lost a Tracker, which started hostilities - ISTAR was a major issue. Had a hard time with the RF-8's, all visual with a 10K cloud ceiling, I was nervous running along the coast, got a few missiles launched at me but no hits - thankfully. My remaining Tracker had been loaded ASW due to the potential sub threat, I kept it that way even though it shortened its legs. The Trackers RWR is good and is the only real asset that could detect ground targets, but couldn't pin point them. So my caution with the RF-8's kept me from finding the good stuff. The Sub's ESM at Parascope depth didn't detect anything, nor did the HF/DF on the Trackers

The A-7's did well against the Migs, although I lost one to a lucky gun shot. Scratched 4 Migs with an RF-8 running at max speed into the AA dome from the TG - nice Flack Trap. Got the Trojan's with A-7's, violated airspace on my way home but hostilities had already started.

Sank the Komar's with Talos missiles - that was an interesting bit. Going into gun range would open me to their missiles (which are of equal range but I had jammers on), firing SAM's at them would weaken my defence, and I wasn’t sure of SSMs on shore, so it was a good little dilemma. Also, there was a couple Russian ships, don't know what class but ID'd them by the type and didn't want to get any closer.

Overall, I think everything works. You could probably cut the KC-135's down to 2. Perhaps consider reducing the number of A-7's, I only used 4. Perhaps give a DASH to one of the FRAM CANs, which would give the player the option of keeping both Trackers on Mar Surv.

You might consider giving the player 1 or 2 EA-3B Skywarrior's or an EC-121 Warning Star, haven't played with either of them so they might be interesting.

Good little game. Thanks

B

Thanks for the comments. I modified the available aircraft, dropping the number of F-8s to 8, dropping the number of tankers to 2, and adding two EF-10B Skyknights, so you have a couple of jammer-equipped aircraft. I also moved the Soviet SAG so it might actually show up. :)

Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Just comment on Gunner98's observations.

I am not sure if there are some bugs how sub ESM works. I have found one scenario/platform (Northern Fury: X-Ray station), SSN 21 Seawolf ESM never detected anything. Los Angeles/Trafalgar/Improved LA, all worked perfectly. I reported that as bug, but it might be good to check if that is the case in this scenario too. Maybe add/change another similar ESM system and see if it works with sub at periscope depth.

ESM in general can be a pain. Even with OTH ESM I rarely get spikes until the radiating unit has already crossed the horizon and has detected my unit anyway.

Ending my game...needed to sink a couple of red ships. Nice scenario!

Hi
I´ve enjoyed it, it´s a nice scenario.
I wish I had available some zuni rockets or bomb loads for the crusaders to keep the enemy ships far from ours.
I´ve loaded the S-2s with rockets and sank a couple of PGMs.

Saludos

Posted a new version recently on the "Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community" thread recently after fixing (I hope) a bug.
