OT: As Darkness Closes In

Post by Trugrit »

Today is August 3rd, 2014.

One hundred years ago today on August 3rd 1914, as dusk was closing in, the British foreign secretary Sir Edward Grey remarked:

“The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime.”

We are still dealing with the results of the Great War one hundred years later.
They called it the Great War because they did not know at the time that they would have to number them.

It would be nice to be done with the past, but it always seems that the past somehow manages to show up on the path ahead of us.

and it happens just because people in goverments refuse to learn from mistakes of the past, if they actually know and understand the past. [:'(]

The sad thing is they know and understand the pas. They just believe that what happened in the past wont happen to them. Similar to bad habits people have, they hear every day of people being killed by them but refuse to accept that they can happen to them and are absolutely astonished when those habits catch up with them.

I think that's exactly right with only one quibble. I am not at all convinced they actually understand the past.
