Caspian Sea Supply Error

Post by markb50k »

NOTE: I can't attach a savegame since the game I'm using is heavily modded (new units), but the screenshot should explain the issue.

I have a German NAV in the Caspian Sea, USSR and Germany are at war.

A Soviet unit on the Caspian coast is still in supply (it says its tracing supply to Astrakhan), even though no Soviet SCS or NAV points are in the Caspian.

Notice the Afghan MTN is also still in supply as well.

It seems the Caspian is not following the same supply rules as normal sea areas.

What are the units in the Allied 0 box? There's a hint of a truncated counter at the top of the screenshot.

Are you playing with or without the limited overseas supply option?

Soviet convoys only. I am playing without LOS, but either way, with no warships, Soviets cannot contest the German NAV.

LOS makes it even harder for units to stay in supply, so if anything, it would make it even less likely the Soviet MIL is still supplied.

If it were LOS, they'd be in supply by virtue of the Convoy.

But even basic supply allows supply via "a surface naval unit" and as long as that unit is there, the supply path is there. And a Convoy is a surface naval unit.

So it's the opposite effect. Yes, LOS makes it harder, but if you meet LOS when LOS is not needed, then its even easier to be in supply.

Just to clarify what Paul said:

If you are playing with the optional rule LOS, then all you need to have is a TRS/Naval Transport/AMPH in the sea area. If one or more of those units is present, then supply can be traced through the sea area. The presence or absence of other units doesn't matter.

And it doesn't matter, for the record. The supply is correct.

Without LOS, the USSR would need a combat unit to contest the German Nav. However, what is the weather? The NAV might be ineffective as a blocking unit if the weather is bad: NoAirFactorsWeather = [wStorm, wBlizzard];

With or without LOS, a CP is a surface naval unit and allows Soviet supply to be conducted.
