Airgroups that can convert to the ki-45 Nick using PPs

Post by Miller »

Does anyone have a list for stock scn 1? I have two 42 plane sqds and one 12 plane sqd in play as of Nov 42, been looking for more but cannot seem to find any with the upgrade path available. Thanks in advance.

With PDU=On, I believe that any of the Light Level Bombers can convert to KI-45s using PPs. None of the fighter groups can, as far as I could find.

Except the group that starts in 3 pieces as recon and fighters and is permanently restricted. I always turn this into FB and let it train in the HI.

It's 270 PPs to change though for LB to FB. [X(]

Expensive but worth it. They really dent unescorted 4E raids. They even do well against sweeps by 1st gen Allied fighters.

You can use the tracker to search what squadrons can update without PP's

I flew the Nick Ia into 45. It still works in rear areas late and is so durable it can take a real beating in the big fur balls and come back for more. Rare for a Japanese plane. The Randy is nice later, but strangely didn't do much better than the Nicks.

I've been experimenting with some low ground bombing with th eNick and it does okay in China. Probably won't be so great against big stacks, but isolated units of the other Allied forces can still be hit hard.

Nicks are good at anti-shipping -- strafing things like pt boats, destroyers, etc. And they are good as fighter bombers in China.

As has been mentioned, the beauty of them is that after they are obsolete as fighters they still make ideal low level naval bombers or kamis late in the game.
