I should say so. Force Z is gone but be careful, you may be exposed to some nasty surface actions with CA/CL in the DEI depending upon Allied aggressiveness or just blundering about.

Nice midget sub work.[:)]

i got into trouble with my oilers, somehow the surface fleet protecting them in the move to jolo, decided to stop at the local fast food, leaving my complete oiler fleet (the PH strike force one) at the mercy of allied CL. result: all sunk
for the rest, I landed at mercing, Balikpapan is for the emperor, and troops are preparing the Burma moves
I am getting hit time after time by PA plaes, catalynas, they come in low with 2 to 4 plaes, and ALWAYS hiot and never get shot down
this seems to be unrealistic to me, the programmer should look at this, even 2 catalynas flew in, and hit my CVE with 12 fighters on CAP!!

any way, I am having some issues:

were to land for JAVA? south part? or Tsjepoe?

also i don't see the value of taking all the way to suva, it gives me nothing in return, and my supply lines will be stretched
im thinking more of keeping it to hod a few bases north of Fiji, and keep the core to the Guadacanal area, Nendi perhaps included
i do not want to be overstretched there, and i need to concentrate my air power to a small piece of ocean.

However: is Ceylon worth the effort? what does madras and bases give me?
and can i defend Ceylon easy

anyone with ideas?

An update eon the situation, almost xmas time 1941
I made progress on DEI, captured Palembang, and I am closing in on Surabaya
In the south pacific guadacanal is for the empire, as is Luganville
the push towards Rangoon is on going, and pressure is now focused on Moulmein.
the 33rd and imperial guards division are operating in Malaya.

my troops just crossed the river into Singapore for a first assault
Ground combat at Singapore (50,84)

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 20231 troops, 219 guns, 132 vehicles, Assault Value = 635

Defending force 19990 troops, 268 guns, 148 vehicles, Assault Value = 336

Japanese adjusted assault: 412

Allied adjusted defense: 509

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 2 (fort level 3)

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), morale(-), experience(-)
Attacker: shock(+), disruption(-)

Japanese ground losses:
4136 casualties reported
Squads: 83 destroyed, 101 disabled
Non Combat: 2 destroyed, 34 disabled
Engineers: 7 destroyed, 64 disabled
Guns lost 28 (4 destroyed, 24 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
920 casualties reported
Squads: 20 destroyed, 100 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 43 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 4 disabled
Guns lost 10 (2 destroyed, 8 disabled)
Vehicles lost 15 (1 destroyed, 14 disabled)

Assaulting units:
56th Infantry Regiment
12th Engineer Regiment
55th Infantry Regiment
5th Engineer Regiment
23rd Ind. Engineer Regiment
1st Tank Regiment
4th Ind. Engineer Regiment
15th Ind. Engineer Regiment
11th Infantry Regiment
41st Infantry Regiment
5th Field Artillery Regiment
25th Army
3rd Medium Field Artillery Regiment
18th Medium Field Artillery Regiment

Defending units:
2nd Gordons Battalion
2/17 Dogra Battalion
1st Manchester Battalion
3rd Cavalry Regiment
2nd Loyal Battalion
1st Malay Battalion
SSVF Brigade
2nd Malay Battalion
22nd Australian Brigade
27th Australian Brigade
Malaya Army
Singapore Fortress
1st HK&S Heavy AA Regiment
Malayan Air Wing
1st Indian Heavy AA Regiment
2nd HK&S Heavy AA Regiment
224 Group RAF
III Indian Corps
24th NZ Pioneer Coy
22nd Indian Mountain Gun Regiment
Singapore Base Force
111th RAF Base Force

my bombers are no set to attack the airfield and ground forces in Singapore
I hope these forces can take Singapore, otherwise I have to wait until the 33rd links up

so far I lost 8 oilers and about 22 AK ships, the AK are part of the price for the aggressive opening, the oilers a screw up, they landed unprotected near jolo, the surface fleet never showed up for protection, and they got caught by the CL Boise.

for the rest, I cannot complain on the progress

thanks to Pax, I am now trying out the land mechanics to transport resources and oil directly to japans front door :)
with 8 of my oilers on the bottom of the ocean, this way of transporting the goods is a welcome one.

I am looking at Ceylon, is it worth it........

south Pacific I will keep to what I got, and perhaps invade northern Australia, to secure the DEI from bombing.

I have Bxx planes bombing Rabaul, my zeros cant get all of them
a problem indeed, but I do not want to invade eastern Australia, it will get me in a situation that will suck up huge resources and troops, and gives me nothing in return, except a safe Rabaul
I been looking to Manus, admiralty islands as a substitute, its safe from Bxx bombing, and has a standard port 4 and airfield 5 indicator
I can make it a Rabaul, with port 6 to 7 and airfield 7 to 8 I hope.
Tulagi, Russel island and Lunga will be my triangle defense (I always at hot spots work with a triangle or 3 base defense system) covering each other with fighters and bombers. when a carrier force arrives and strikes Tulagi, the other 2 bases are untouched and will support in the counter attack
I plan to place torpedo bombers on each of the bases, 30-50 each ( I resize the kate units with my CVE's and the clauds as well, then update them to zeros)
it should give the triangle 100 fighters and 100 torpedo bombers in total
Shortlands and Rabaul can support with betty's and recon and search planes.

I will do the same on the eastern defense islands at Kwajalein.
I do not want to expand to southern Australia, NZL or Fiji, as I think it will stretch my supply and also spread my air units thin over a larger area
and what does japan gain from taking so deep south? it has no economical gain in my view, or you must go for an all out conquest of Australia.(that never happened to what I read)
hence I can capitalize on my early progress in Malaya to aid the Burma campaign, and look at Ceylon
but I am wondering if Ceylon is sustainable, it is a great point to raid supply convoys and perhaps invade madras

Ideas anyone?

Ceylon can give you an opportunity to engage the British fleet early while you still have an advantage in experience and numbers. If you can do some damage to that fleet, and take Ceylon, I expect it will take a while for the Allies to take it back and as long as you have Ceylon, the British have to come at you overland if they want to move on Indo-China.

I took it in my AAR, but it is only the end of June 42 so I can't say how it will play out in the long run.

are there timetables for Ceylon? is it possible to take it in end January?

Also I am looking for a way to secure the east pacific from Kwajalein area and the northern passage by the kurile islands.

Ceylon can be taken well into the middle of 1942 in my opinion.
