Ship names

Post by LeeChard »

I got the idea from LargeSlowTarget to add a marker to the names of ships that will be withdrawn at some point.
I'm a complete rookie at altering the game.
Can someone point the way?

Too early in the morning and not enough coffee to help, I will be back later.

Er, there's already a marker on them.

Well, two options:

1. Easy, but slow and tedious: Use the editor furnished with the game, load the scenario you wish to alter and then go through the ship list, checking each ship for a withdrawal date and add a marker to the ship name.

2. More complicated, but faster: Use the witploadAE.exe tool to extract the scenario files into .csv files which can be edited with Excel. Open the file WITPshpxxx.csv (xxx = scenario number) and filter the column for withdrawal dates (i.e. hide all empty cells of this column) to find all ships with a withdrawal date. Add marker to ship names (either one by one - or as batch with a formula or macro, if you know how), then import the .csv files with the witploadAE.exe tool back into scenario files for the game.

I still don't understand why you'd want to. Make a habit out of checking the ship withdrawals list.

Just an additional visual clue giving vital info at one glance when needed (i.e. when in the create TF list), making housekeeping easier for me.

I also use other ship name markers for example for submarines carrying float planes, midgets or dedicated minelaying subs, so I can find them faster.

If habit is working well enough for you - fine.

LST is smart. If he has something that works, I would recommend it.

Wow, what a compliment - or was that sarcasm? [:D] Thanks John, I feel "knighted".

I get it. I sometimes add ships to TF's that are withdrawing shortly and have to split them out or wait for the TF to get home. Don't always remember to check the withdrawal list. GP
