1.9.5.4 auto-design ships without shields

After installing 1.9.5.4 AI fields some ships without any shield. Mainly cruisers but sometimes destroyers too. This is not in pre-warp setting so technology exist - AI just not use it in design for some reason.

What is the maximum build size? It probably removes all shields to fit under a small size limit. There ought to be limits in how much it is stripping away. 0 shields is not useful.

Seen some weird stuff too. Quameno capitals at size 300 while cruisers keep going up to 400, missing strange varieties of standard components, cruisers with 1 pulse blaster, resort bases with no passenger compartments, unable to build troop transports at size 400 and transport systems.

Seen cruisers and destroyers without shields - only 300 armor. Needless to say they retreat immediately under AI control then someone fired on them even 1 blaster. This is really bad for AI empires with big ships they retreat immediately from battle and empire with horde of light vessels beat rest of the fleet easily.

Looks like we need to wait for 1.9.5.5 which will hopefully fix this issue

Also found and repaired some derelict ships without shields. Cruisers with ~230 size shieldless. Something is wrong :]

I would suggest that no components should be reduced by more than 30%.

And it seems to put too many reactors now. (why 3 reactors? 2 reactors should be enough).

Note: Weapons and engine have been reduced by 50%. That is too much.
Armor remain untouched, and shield are completely removed.

Looks like now AI just adds +1 reactor regardless of any considerations. I got 1 useless reactor on all auto-designed ships. Good for fuel consumption and nothing else. Definitely explains why in current game fleets spend more time on refuel than fighting.

My AI designs have been including shields just fine.

Before blaming the AI you should look at the ship design template. This design appears to be limiting itself to 300 and for sum reason decided that 30 armor components is appropriate for a small ship. Is there a racial preference for armor?

Ships without shields are useless because of the: Retreat when shields 20%.
(As long as we don't have an option like: Retreat Armor 20%).

And look at the Cruise speed (6!). That is very slow.

Thanks for the reports.

These issues are fixed in the next update: when attempting to shrink a new design to fit within construction size limits, the ship design AI will now not add too many extra reactors, nor remove too many shields or other critical components.
