DW Governments Expanded

Post by Kingah »

Some extra governments to play around with.
Containing:

Proletarian Dictatorship - Socialist Dictatorship
Fascism - A authoritarian state
Meritocracy - A state ruled by the most fit (skills etc)
Corporatocracy - A state ruled by a corporation
Hegamony - A state indirectly ruling over territory with threat of force
Kleptocracy - A state ruled by a corrupt goverment (Maffia etc)
Stratocracy - Basically military dictatorship but they are ruling according to the constitution
Thalassocracy - A nation with control of the sea (space) rather than land
Timocracy - A state where only people with property is allowed to rule. (Pretty much Plutocracy)
Hagiarchy - A state ruled by priests, the church or some other form of religious group or saints.

And finally Kakistocracy - A state ruled by litterally the worst. A troll goverment turned off by default. Have terrible stats in all areas but might be fun to play as in a challange. If you want to activate it just follow the instructions in the Governments.txt file.

(Tried to stay away from some obvious goverments in order not to step on dwains toes too much)

EDIT: Removed the extra bias lines. Were for some extra governments I had in the prerelease but removed due to reasons. Should be working now.

This will add some entertaining playable options, thank you. Certainly looking forward to learning about the '29, Foolocracy,' in the next release.

Some excellent ideas...
Worth some thought and additions in my own games...

Hi Kingah,

Your file seems to have 25 governments (0-24), but the government biases file contains 27 columns (0-26). What's with it?

Hey,
first off, I love the idea of having more government types and these look very interesting. So thank you.

But secondly, as Solaris Scorch already pointed out, the rows and such seem to be off. I had to go in and do to editing to get it to work properly but its running smoothly now. Just need to delete the last column to get it working.

Can I ask what you mean by last column, which file. I want to use this but when I add it in my game simply won't start.

It's in the governmentBiases.txt file. Basically, the number of rows and columns must be the same (and match the governments.txt, of course).

Is it possible to add research bonuses triggered by a decision of the player? Because research should not be tied to government type but instead on different policies the government takes, such as investments into education, technology grants, and massive projects for specific things (crash research abstracts this though).
Every government type should have normal research, but some might modify these programs, which would might take percentages of your budget or flat amounts if that isn't possible.

It's already in the game: finding research bonus locations, building wonders, creating Academies for more scientists.

Those are not government policies nor a baseline for scholarly study set by a government, but instead are exceptional things made for prestige in most cases. There is nothing wrong with them but something deeper would, in my opinion, be much more interesting.

I agree. Most, if not all, civ-like/4X games have some sort of science management (I'm not talking about choosing tech). DW doesn't really.

Was for a government I had in it pre release but decided to remove. Fixed now. Sorry

A theocracy is where the head of state is a divine being, with priests and the like ruling in absence. They're realistically the same, but they are actually different (assuming the being exists)
